Would 60K annually be considered a successful salary for a 27 year old in Houston?

I just got offered that that amount today to take an EDI coordinator position, and I'm finally feeling like I'm starting to make it as a success. But I know there are people that make much more.

What amount should I shoot for before I can say I'm a financially successful individual?

You could shoot for a 6-figure salary, anything over 100K.
But to get 60K at the age of 27 is a great accomplishment.
There are definitely people that make much more, but also a whole lot more people that make a whole lot less, so I would say , I hope you continued success.

Whether the salary is comparable to peers of the same level is highly dependent on your location, education etc.

Go to www.salary.com The site will give you the average and medium salary of the job at your specified location.

The question of whether a person is financially successful individual is highly philosophical. It is all in your mind. If you want to drive a nicer car, live in a bigger house and have more money in the bank, then you may want to look for a 2nd shift job.

Best wishes.

Salary is not a really good indicator of success. A person making 60K in Iowa would be making 150K in LA. No matter what you make, there will always be a way to spend it. When I was 27 I thought that if I made it to 75K I would be happy, now I make 90K and hope to be at 150K. The moral of the story is, once you make money you will always want to make more.

Is money so important that it dictates your life? How much does it cost to live out there in Houston these days? I live a rich life with a wife, child, many friends and extended family. 2 cars, house, everthing I can hope for, is mine. I'm 26 and I make 35k/ year and live in Los Angeles, CA. God says that if you trust him, the desires of your heart will be yours. That's not to say that you will have whatever toys you want but, more that you will desire what you truly need. God has been faithful to his words.

Financially successful is more about what you have than what you make. If you have $250,000 in debt and make 60K thats not a good situation. If you are debt free and make 60K AND you are saving a lot of it, then you can consider yourself financially successful.

60K is great! for 27 ...

sure there are people that make a lot more, but there are also people who make a LOT less. The ones that DO make the 250K are 55 year olds that have no family life, or social life.

remember, contentedness can't be found in where you aren't, but where you are.

it depends on your field, it also depends on the cost of living your city. 60k is perfectly good for someone your age. There are always going to be people making much more, depending on their field of work, there education, their personal contacts, etc. Success is also how you feel about it, if you feel comfortable then you're successful, period

The definition of a good salary is dependent on where you live, but that sounds like an exceptionally good starting salary for Texas.

Does it pay your bills and then some? Sounds like you are making a decent salary to me. 60k for a starting salary is good.... I am sure they have benefits too like, health, retirement, go for it. Your young, you have alot of financial growth ahead of you and its a start to you resume...

well you could say you were a financially successful individual only making 30K a year, if you were able to pay all your bills and have alittle left over

It basically has nothing to do with how much you make,.. it's how much you make versus how much you spend that will determine your financially success,

however I would shoot for closer to 70K, if you have the degree and experience to back it
