The ability to speak english does not tell you who is illegal who is legal (for that first guy).
Well, I guess if the worker is not even making minimum wage that would tell me that the employer knew the person was illegal, and if there were a large number of illegals that would also be a clue, but if there were only a couple illegals in your employ then you might be able to say you did not know. Make sure you always copy the documentation your employees provide to you.

OH Lord, u just let the cat out the bag. So now u, and anti, is not only enabling but employing illegal aliens im guessing. So if u dont check SSN w/the IRS then u must not care enough about this country & its citizens to pay for a service that provides confirmation of "legal status". Thats teh problem w/ppl & employers like yourself u want to rant & rave about the illegal issue but ur not willing to do a DAMN thing about it except come on this forum and bash these ppl while all the while u yourself may or may not b exploiting them. Tsk, tsk....

Mr.Mom. Breaking the law is wrong. But I just don't like it when some people equate illegal immigrants with hardened criminals like rapists and murderers. I don't have any kids but when my nephew does something wrong I will tell him it's wrong(He's only two so I don't think he gets it but I don't just let it go)
The reason I support Immigration Reform is because the bill called for background checks and for people to pay fines and they go to the back of the line for a green card. I also supported the previous one that said people who were here for more than five years(or three yeaars I don't remember) could get a green card. Gang members, rapists and murderers are not getting any sympathy from me. I only want people who want to work and better themselves here.

They need to go after both the employers and the illegals!!! You can do background checks on perspective employees. Gov't is not trying to pass the buck, for once, they are trying to put an end to the illegal immigration situation!!

The government just wants the law enforced. If it is against the law to hire people in this country or trying to work illegally, then the companies need to have consequences if they break the law.

Wouldn't you know if the ss number was fake after you sent the paper work to the IRS? Do you do backround checks on your employees? If not, you should! If you had an illegal Mexican male so to say, and the ss number came back for a black American male, that should tell you something.

Uhhhhh number one......it's illegal!
Number two it's the law.
You can get an on line service to run background checks. It may cost, but better to keep your operating license. Don't you think?
The illegals are counting on us being our usual lazy self. As long as they show up, work reasonably hard and don't cause trouble, we will let them get by.

if we can get rid of people who support and give illegals work, then they will have no more movitation to come here
also, people who give jobs to illegals do it because they can make more money by paying illegals less than they would have to pay U.S. citizens, and this takes away jobs from legal americans

Because that is the "magnet" that draws illegals here, in addition to welfare and other benefits. Remove the magnet of illegal employment and public assistance, the illegals will leave on their own.
It remains to be seen just how serious the government is in wanting to rid the country of illegal workers. Yes, there could be better cooperation in the areas of worker verification and eligibility to work and be here legally.

If you check out the social security number you can probably tell by age or something if it is legal or not.
