its a waste of money... they didn't expect you to tollerate the annoying piece of junk long enough for it to break.

I agree with FredHH: The Littermaid really is a waste of money. And you just saw one of the reasons why I say that. Not having to clean the kitty litter is a nice concept, but it's very difficult to implement in a way that it's not more trouble than it's worth.

Get rid of it and get an old-fashioned litter box. Unless there's something wrong with your kitty, it's not really that hard to clean once a day.

If the rake can move freely the full length of the box, then chances are good that the motion sensor is shot. The rake will go through the litter four seperate times before it gives up, as a rule; if it goes longer than that, then there's a problem.

I have to disagree with the folks who don't like the contraption - mine works beautifully, and I have no complaints with it at all! I have found that litter that has they hydrophyllic crystals in it (like Tidy Cats small spaces or crystal blend) works best.

It obviously is malfuntioning! Remove the batteries, or unplug the thing, it may have a short. If it is still under warranty, you should be able to return it for a replacement or refund. If you got it at Wal-mart, they usually take back anything!
Hopefully you retained the paperwork that came with it. Refer to that for suggestions or info on how to return. Or look up their web-site. If they don't have specific info listed, they should have a contact link, and you can e-mail and ask them specifically.
Until you get this sorted out, give kitty a replacement litterbox. Even a cardboard box with several sheets of newspaper under the litter will work short-term. If it is placed in the usual location, with the usual litter, she will understand it's her potty, even if it looks different. Good luck!

What the heck is a Littermaid? Is that the girl who has been taking my trash out all week?

Something is wrong with the motion sensor. It needs to be cleaned or replaced. Good idea, poor engineering.
