Bad breath can be caused by a medical condition, dental decay or disease. No amount of gum or mints will help, only a thorough cleaning will remove the bacteria that causes bad breath.
Hopefully you are close enough that you can discuss this with him without hurting his feelings. I've always found that frankness is the best way, but then again, I'm discussing this with a patient at the time. So you may want to broach the topic carefully and with a great deal of concern for his dental and physical health.
Explain that his problem could be the result of what he eats, acid reflux, a gastro problem or other more serious medical problems, or that it could be a dental problem or his brushing technique. Then explain that there is a technique you found that might help and that he might want to add into his regime. You should suggest he floss, brush his teeth, (spending at least 2 minutes on the brushing) then brush his cheeks, the tongue (as far back as possible) and all of the gum tissue and possibly throw in Listerine as a rinse. After he gets into the habit of good oral hygiene, he will realize the difference and so will you and hopefully he will keep it up, for both of you!
If this method doesn't help with the bad breath, he should see his dentist first to determine if its dental decay, gingivitis, gum disease or medical problem, and go from there on finding a remedy. Good luck and I hope I've been of some help.

First off if its really bad then it might be a more serious issue and he needs to go see his dentist and get his teeth and gums checked out. Second he needs to keep hydrated, a dry mouth produces more bacteria hence the bad breath. He also should eat more fruits and veggies, helps keep the breath fresh (strange but true) And of couse he should brush and floss alot! and then follow with mouth wash and he can swallow A TINY BIT to keep it fresh a little longer. OH also avoid garlic, onions, coffee, and cheese those all cause bad breath....hope this helps!

Good old oral hygiene always worked.
When he brushes his teeth, he needs to also brush his tongue which is a mayor source of bacteria which is what causes bad breath. Flossing!!! als o helps. If he has cavities then, these need to be filled by the dentist. They can harbor bacteria causing bad breath.
Chewing gum will only mask the bad breath and not get rid of it.
I feel real Strong about tongue brushing. Your tongue should be pink not white. The white is bacteria build up,, is sooooo GROSS. Brush at least 2-3 times a day.
If you don't speak up now, is not going to ever change and later on your relationship will pay the price. Is GROSS. you shouldn't have to put up with it.

FLOSS! A lot of food and bacteria can get stuck in between one's teeth and this is often a major cause of bad breath. Have him smell the floss after he does it and he will never not floss again. Also when brushing your teeth brush the tongue too. As far as toothpaste goes try the one's with mouthwash added to it.

You should see a doctor. Bad breath could come from other things besides foods, and lack of hygeine. Strep Throat and Infections in the nose can cause foul odors. If brushing, rinsing, flossing, gum, and mints are not working, suggest he see a ENT specialist.

Yo go to a drug store or a Wal-Mart, there's this stuff called Breath-Rx, it's a combination spray and tongue cleaner. You spray it on your tongue, then scrape it off with the tongue cleaner. It works very well, especially if you use it everyday.
The germs that cause bad breath are on the back of your tongue, so this is one of the best otc methods you can get for it.

There are these things call tongue scrapers that you can find at your local drugstore usually. Bad breath comes from bacteria and stuff on your tongue and the tongue scraper (I'm not sure if that's the proper term) takes it right off

He needs to make sure to floss regularly and clean his tongue. You can brush your teeth, but if you don't clean between the teeth and the tongue, your breath can still be malodorous.
