Because there's no questions for pagans or Taoists in the Cats section.

Oh wait, I'm spiritual....

People have a right to discuss what affects them. It's part of the social and political dialogue. If no one speaks from a secular point of view, some people may get the impression there are no secularists out there. It's important to listen to what people have to say so that you understand what different kinds of thoughts are out there. And if no one speaks, there's nothing to listen to.

A lot of atheists are really frightened, and the only way they can deal with their fears is by lashing out at others who do not share their misery.

A true atheist would simply go about living their lives without worship or belief in anything other than natural existence. Seeing other people worship or preach their beliefs wouldn't frighten them. They'd even be happy to sit in on a church service or two, and appreciate it for what it is BEYOND the religous aspect (as a social gathering and a moment of shared and peaceful humanity).

But most so-called atheists are filled with fear, and they want everyone to join them for fear that maybe they are wrong.

Imagine we're all in a pool of water. We're told that, if we get out of the pool, the absence of water will immediately cause a reaction within our bodies that guarantees horrible pain and suffering years later. Atheists climb out of the pool and proudly say, "Look, I'm still here, see? I'm not dying!" But they still have fear. So they want EVERYONE to get out of the pool with them, and they spend all their remaining days shouting at everyone else in the pool. A true atheist would have just climbed out, walked away, and never looked back. They wouldn't care that others stayed behind in the pool. And if they passed other pools with people in them, they woudn't bother with them. So sure of their decision, they would vanish into the sunset. And the people in the pools would never know what actually ever became of them. And frankly, that woudn't matter to the atheist.

By constantly harrassing the religious and spiritual, atheists PROVE that they are unsure of their atheism. But what do you expect? It's scary to think that one day, their life will simply end and their net existence was nothing more than a consumption of oxygen and the generation of fecal matter and urine. Their only comfort is in sharing their misery with others.

Mostly, they are here to belittle Christians and try to prove them wrong. Some seem like they are trying to "convert" others to be non believers. I guess misery loves company. On the other hand, I believe that some of them REALLY want to know what makes us tick and want to understand more about what we believe. I think others are not sure of their "non belief" and are seeking but would never admit that. I just hope that something that is said by someone will make them consider becoming a believer. It is easy to just say there is nothing bigger than me, I can do what I want when I want and when you die you die and take your chances. It is like they worship science & technology. I appreciate science & technology too but it is not going to get me to heaven. Just putting your faith in that will lead you to hell. They don't realize how difficult it is to believe without seeing. That is a brave and courageus thing to do. It is easy to believe if you can see something. duh. That is a no brainer. It is more interesting and complex to believe in and have a relationship with Jesus even though you can't physically see him. I feel him around me all the time and it is NOT just endorphins.

Because it's against the law to throw christians to the lions anymore..

Conceptualising the natural world through the eyes of mainstream scientific principles and understandings is a VERY spiritual experience, and those who deny themselves and their children access to this massive body of knowledge need to wake up and smell the coffee..
The magic sky fairy is only for the gullible, ignorant brainwashed or the simple minded..

I am atheist, with tendencies of both LaVeyan Satanism and agnosticism. One may certainly infer that I am not religious. However, I strive for new knowledge; I thrive on it--being here is an easy, convenient method of learning new things. In addition, I like to help others learn, and therefore I try to do so by answering the questions which I have knowledge of. Just because you don't follow something, does not mean that you don't know it, or understand it--so WHY NOT share our knowledge?

I am drinking. Apple juice ... yummmmmm. ;)

Maybe they're here because they wonder about why other people ARE religious or spriitual.

Yahoo! Q and A is about discussion and discovery, right?

Naturally you get some doofuses with some agenda to convince other people that his/her way of thinking is the only right way, but let's just keep on laughing at them and discussing cool stuff anyway.

Ok try to understand a couple of things.

There is NO requirement posted by Yahoo that one must be religious or spiritual to post here

There is NO way that you could possibly know if posters are spirtual or religious.

This is a place to talk ABOUT religion and spirituality. Do you have to be a dog to go to the dog section?

It is curious and interesting to see other peoples' take on religion and spirituality. Plus when I see viscious attacks on nonreligious people, I like to respond to let those bigot hateful people know it is not acceptable to treat other people that way.
