Catholics are Christian. I can't tell you the difference between the Catholic faith and your boyfriend's faith because I don't know what kind of Christian he is (Baptist, Lutheran, Church of Christ, etc.?)
You should sign up TOGETHER to take a class at a Catholic church called RCIA. This is free and it will help you understand what Catholicism is all about. You could also read the books, "Catholicism for Dummies" or "What Catholics Really Believe."
Then you should also sign up TOGETHER to take a similar class at whatever church your boyfriend belongs to, so you can both understand his faith, too.
Best case scenario, you will choose to be the same kind of Christian. If that is Catholic, then you ought to have your baby baptized ASAP. Not knowing what church your boyfriend, I can't comment on whether they practice infant baptism or not.
If there is ever an emergency with the baby, however, Catholics are allowed to baptize without a priest. Just put some water on him and say, "---- (his name) ----, I baptize you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." It's preferable to do this with a witness, but if there is no time, don't worry about it.

Baptism constitutes the foundation of communion among all Christians, including those who are not yet in full communion with the Catholic Church: "For men who believe in Christ and have been properly baptized are put in some, though imperfect, communion with the Catholic Church. Justified by faith in Baptism, [they] are incorporated into Christ; they therefore have a right to be called Christians, and with good reason are accepted as brothers by the children of the Catholic Church." "Baptism therefore constitutes the sacramental bond of unity existing among all who through it are reborn
Born with a fallen human nature and tainted by original sin, children also have need of the new birth in Baptism to be freed from the power of darkness and brought into the realm of the freedom of the children of God, to which all men are called. The sheer gratuitousness of the grace of salvation is particularly manifest in infant Baptism. The Church and the parents would deny a child the priceless grace of becoming a child of God were they not to confer Baptism shortly after birth.
Christian parents will recognize that this practice also accords with their role as nurturers of the life that God has entrusted to them.
The practice of infant Baptism is an immemorial tradition of the Church. There is explicit testimony to this practice from the second century on, and it is quite possible that, from the beginning of the apostolic preaching, when whole "households" received baptism, infants may also have been baptized.

He should've already been baptized. You both need to study Catholicism, and once again I'm agreeing with Sparki.
Oh, you can only baptize in emergency (lets say your car broke down and there's a tornado or something about to eat you). And if the child gets out of it, you'll want him to be re baptized for the purpose of record keeping.

Baptism is Baptism. If you want to baptise your son then do so, but only if you and your bf agree. Some churches will say you have to be baptized in their church to be saved, but if you are baptized like Jesus was then it doesn't matter. I would read up on that in the new testament.

Hmm, a Christian living with his girlfriend and having a kid out of wedlock. Funny how loosely some use the term Christian.

Baptism is a commitment that can't be made by someone not old enough to make that choice . It requires immersion in water , doesn't matter what kind , can be a barrel of water . But must be total immersion , just like Jesus did it .

Catholic is Christian, why do the Protestants discredit the Catholics all the time when they have the same issues.

Infant baptism is useless.....
Salvation comes through faith in God through Jesus Christ
Baptism has NO saving value.....it is simply the outward sign of our inward conversion. Let the child choose for himself when he's old enough to do so.
