What does it mean when someone waves their left hand by the their left ear? Also do know of any good websites where I can learn some basics. I work with the public and have a customer that is deaf and sometimes he is really nice other times he is nasty. I would like to learn a little bit to communicate better with him. I only know how to say Thank you and spell sorry.

www.ASLPro.com is an awesome site. They have a conversational dictionary that will show you all kinds of greetings and basic sentences.

I don't know what the waving of the hand by the ear means. Ask him! Either write on a piece of paper, "What does that mean?" and make the sign back to him; or make the sign and then shrug your shoulders and make the sign for "what does that mean" (you'll find it on the site I mentioned.) He may be thrilled that you're showing an interest in learning--or he could be a grouch!

Hope that helps!

There is a site that has many words, no sentences nor does it teach, but you might want to use it:

I am not 'speaking' sign language myself, and I can not help you with your main question.
