What os are you running? I have a hp laptop and I have never had any problems with mine. if you don't have anything loaded on it and it still does this, then you may need to do a clean install. it doesn't sound like it is the hardware, sounds like windows has a problem.
Try clean install again since you don't have any programs on it then you shouldn't lose anything.

Yup, ctrl-alt-del don't work! The only thing it does is, when you're logging on (if you don't have auto-log-on) if you catch it REALLY QUICK, make the Administrator logonid available... (If you DO have auto-logon, then the way to get a logon screen is, to hit Start and Logoff the current user...then when the logon screen comes back, hit ctrl-alt-del REALLY QUICK! And hope like heck you know the Administrator password...)

put in the system disc and do a repair install that way you won't lose your files and stay away from shady websites same thing happened to me I lost track where I was browsing and something similar happened.
