apparantly if you've been convicted of a driving offence within the last 7 years or so you can't get in, no other country cares about this!

Thats odd.

They also have a bizarrely slow speed limit considering the size of the country. (Altho I know in winter this will be appropriate).

It really doesn't work that way. Canada doesn't discriminate about the type of offense. They look at the charge, see if it is a Crime in Canada and judge by the penalty. Crimes are evaluated by the maximum. You can get a lot of time for a DUI, so it's on the list.

Oddly enough, I think the same way about US criminal inadmissibility rules. A pot charge will keep you out. So caught smoking once and you are a threat to the US. But I just chalk it up to how different our cultures really are.

If you have demonstrated the willingness to endanger your own life and the life of others with your criminal recklessness, I would hope authorities would make sure you were not able to drive in your own country. But regardless of what authorities in your area choose to do or not to do, you're not welcome here!
By the way, contrary to what another respondent has suggested, Canada doesn't have speed limits lower than other countries. On many major highways of Canada you are allowed to drive 110 or 120 kilometres an hour (that's 68 to 75 miles per hour for the Americans). I seem to remember 55 mile per hour speed limits in many parts of the States.

Well, I am just wondering exactly how many countries that you have actually asked or found out that they don't care about drunk drivers? And I think I can say congrats then if we/Canada is so strict and then I am thinking, maybe we care that much that someone does not get hurt or killed by a drunk driver!!!

I had two friends killed by a drunk driver years ago. We have enough idiots that endanger other people by drinking and driving we don't need them coming in from other countries too.

Because they want to protect their people from as much danger as possible. A drunk driver is a potential murderer so to eliminate the potential, they don't let you in. Sounds good to me

Cananda has extremely strict rules about crimes that we think aren't that bad here in th USA. You wont get them to change their minds, and they will search you to make sure you dont have a record. Good luck!

Coz we hate having ourselves and our loved ones killed or maimed by a self-centered idiot. If other countries don`t care that you are a potential murderer of their children, you should go there for your vacation.
