I know I posted a similar question but I'm having a hard time deciding champagne or wine, basing it on presentation (the champagne bottle is pretty) or practicallity (wine). Wine keeps longer and most likely my friends will want to display it as a keepsake and open it during an anniversary down the road.. click on this link and which one would you choose among the three? http://www.personalizationmall.com/Product.aspx?productID=1137&sdest=search&sdestid=0 thanks in advance for your input!

I think they're all tacky. You drink champagne or wine for what's inside the bottle not outside. You want to give them something fantastic that tastes good and looks good? Give them Perrier Jouillet champagne with two glasses. This stuff is fantastic. Sure it's $200. Oh well. You pay for quality. You could also make your own basket with a bottle of GOOD CHAMPAGNE NOT JUNK and two quality Riedel glasses.

But the stuff you are trying to send them is going to taste like (in French) "merde".

Looking at the choices, honestly I would go with the Sparkling wines.

The wines are not from great wineries. It is a Monterey based winery, which makes respectable wines but not something I would expect to keep for more than 5-8 years. It also depends on the vintage, but I would not expect the wine to last too long. There is nothing worse than opening a nicely stored bottle of wine for years, deciding to open on a special occasion but unpleasantly discover the wine is bad and ruining that occasion. That happened to my friend, who opened a 20 years old Dom Perignon for his daughter's college graduation, only to serve her the nastiest vinager.

Go for the Bubbly and have them drink it at 1st year or 2nd year anniversary. That would be special. The bottle can be kept for a long time.

Properly stored, the champagne would last as long as either. Traditionally, it would be recommended for a "special toast".

If any of the bottles are opened, the contents would be practically undrinkable after a few weeks.

Champagne may not be the most practical, but it is the most festive choice for a gift like this. It's symbolic of celebration and really just more fun!

As the champagne is actually "sparkling wine," I would go with the cab, it should be pretty good for the 5th (10th ,20th) anniversary...
