I was always a fan of something more "informal" - both times. My first dress was a white satin A-line with a sweep train. My second was an ivory lace two-piece ankle length.

I'm not the "poufy dress" type, I don't have the figure for a sleek form-fitting gown, I'm too busty for a strapless, I'm not flashy enough for rhinestones, I'm not edgy and modern, and I want something more special than a casual dress that I would wear again. I did want something formal, that clearly reflected I'm the bride, but not too traditional. So, my dress is a formal (a fancy bridesmaid dress, really), in almost-white ivory, with a to-the-floor chiffon skirt (with a little movement to it, but not poufy) and a lightly fitted sleeveless top with a bit of beading and embroidery on it. It has a zipper up the back, but also a lace-up component that helps it look more like a wedding dress. Perfect for our formal, but not stuffy, wedding! An added plus is it cost only $98!

Princess or A-line with shine but not that silver or gold embroidery. It makes the dress look dingy. Strapless is a no-no. It only looks good on about 5% of women and is so boring because everyone does it now and all brides pretty much look the same. I prefer white over champagne but I love the white with other colored accents to match the bridesmaids. I wish I had done it.

Sleek and form fitting in a luxurious fabric like satin or silk
something simple but sexy. it usually catches the eye. don't over-do it with the prom-like and poofy and gem stoned covered dress. something simple is usually comfortable. always go with the classic white ,with or without, a touch of color. lace is also nice

I had a rather traditional gown of bridal satin, with crystals, beads, pearls, sequins, and lace appliques (not garish at all, just sounds like a lot of embellishments, but was lovely); flowing skirt, very long train, fingertip veil with small tiara.

I prefer a dress that is classic in styling and not trendy. A dress that 20 years later when looking at the pictures no one will be able to tell when you were married - and you won't regret.

My dress will resemble the Audry Hepburn dress from Sabrina. Champagne and plum. 3/4 length sleeves, off the shoulder neckline.

I love a sleek/form fitting mermaid gown.
LOVE IT. So beautiful.
I am actually not at all a fan of those big ballgown dresses. They weigh too much!
And def don't go too casual. You only get married once, so do it big :)

The other poster is so right - strapless looks TERRIBLE on almost everyone. I like an off white or champagne color, understated and not too sexy.
