The sabbath runs from sundown friday night thru nightfall saturday. this is because the bible, in describing a day states 'evening and morning....' thus a 'day' starts and ends with the onset of evening. As this moment is only vaguely defined, one uses the most strict interpretations on each end to ensure that the entire sabbath is observed.

As for how one observes the sabbath, literally volumes have been written and the entire discussion is well beyond the scope of this forum. The basics are refraining from creative work, for example, such as making fire, cooking, building, planting, harvesting and other such things and things related to them. In all there are 39 general categories of 'work' that are prohibited on the sabbath, which are derived from the tasks required to create the desert tabernacle in the book of exodus.

The purpose of the day is to focus on the fact that everything comes from God, accepting this and expressing gratitude. Additionally, focus on familial and social relationships is also emphasized.

The concept of 'holy' means to separated for a higher purpose. By refraining from 'making a living' for a day, one separates himself from secular society and exists only by God's will, as it were.

Ex. 20:8-11 Sabbath is the seventh day of the week which on EVERYBODY'S calendar...is Saturday. It DOES matter to God which day of the week we choose to keep holy since He is the Creator and made it holy Himself. There was a reason for that...it was to remember that very thing...that He did give us life and is our God.

Well it depends on your religon...if you are catholic i think it is what everyone else is saying ( saturday ). But i am not catholic i am a non-denominational christian. If you look in the Bible back in the very begining it says "By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creation that he had done" -Genesis 2:2-4
This means that because God rested on the seventh day, Sunday, we are to also respect that and keep the sabbath holy. This day is commanded by God for rest and worship.

Here is the sabbath commandment from the Bible:

Exo 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Exo 20:9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
Exo 20:10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
Exo 20:11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Now, think about it, for a moment. These commandments were given in a time when there were NO modern conveniences. If you wanted water, you had to go to the well, and carry it. That could be a short walk...or it could be a L-o-o-o-o-o-n-g hike. If you wanted a new shirt, or a robe, you either had to make it yourself, or have it made for you...by hand. Food had to be grown, without any aid from any machinery. Forget your refrigerator, your stove, your washing machine, your dryer, your electric lights, your kitchen sink...they had none of these things. No roombas or zoombas...no, not even a Swiffer...but that's OK, because most folks still had dirt floors.
Beginning to get the picture? Taking a day to rest was an unknown luxury...and they were to SHARE this luxury, even with the servants!! Unheard of!! What utter madness!!
In fact, the people around them figured they were a lazy bunch, taking a whole day to rest from their labors. Sort of the way the ants looked at the grasshopper.

Some folks like to make a huge debate over this. They want to argue and debate over what day the sabbath is, wanting everyone to go to church on that day...never thinking about what Jesus said...that we are not made for the sabbath, but the sabbath is made for us!
Imagine, there among all those "thou shalt nots", is this amazing gift...time out for yourself! Time to meditate, to study, to read...or just sleep late and spend the day listening to the birds singing... "I rested," God says, "and I want you to take a rest once every week, too."
So, enjoy what God has given you. But do take one day in seven to just be still...and know that He is God...

The Sabbath day is Saturday, you keep it holy by doing what the Lord did. But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and Earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed (sanctified) it. Exodus 20:10-11 KJV) It is from sunset Friday to sunset Saturday.

Friday night at 6 pm is the start of the Sabbath. Don't do any work, don't drive, walk everywhere, don't talk about business or money. I believe it ends on Saturday at 6pm. Pray and spend time with family.

How long did you spend coming up with this one?

The Sabbath is a day you set aside to rest and to worship God.
Does it really matter if you do it on Saturday or Sunday? To some people it does. To me it does not.

By human standards; teh sabbath is the 7th day of the week.
If you are going where I presently think you are going with that concept; be aware of something. God/Jesus gave the Jews, and later the Christians, the 2 or more witnesses principle. When applied; amongst other things; that could mean obey the 7th day, or put him 1st, i.e. worship on the 1st day of the week; either one, 'we' Americans presently call that freedom.
