Spanish, most Chinese become at least proficient in English. If you plan to do business in China, Mandarin would be a great one. Perhaps once you've learned Spanish you could move on to Mandarin. Mandarin's tough because it is not in any way related to English. Since they say the second language is the hardest, Spanish is a very easy to speak language since it stems form Latin and has a lot of the same vocabulary. Chinese languages are hard. I spoke some Cantonese as a kid but I doubt I could get it back now.

Learn Spanish. According to University papers all around the corner, by the year 2025 1 out of every 4 people in the United States will be from Hispanic origin. Which means that you have a 25% of the total population speaking spanish. Most of the services are already being offered in Spanish and its amazing how poor translations are. Chineese is not that good bet due to the fact that many Chineese are learning English right now and their intention is to do bussiness with americans in english not in Chineese. As of right now the most profitable language in America is Arabic. The goverment is paying high salaries to people that can speak both languages and are not from Islamic backgrounds. So if you are between 16-20 years old, learn arabic. For kids Spanish is the best bet.

I am re-learning Spanish to work with new students in our school, but the language to learn to live HERE would be English. Spanish, Italian and French are all beautiful and used on trips abroad. Japanese is useful in the business world, but English is the very language that was adopted by our forefathers when they came to this country to discover the New World.
"English is a West Germanic language originating in England, and the first language for most people in Australia, Canada, the Commonwealth Caribbean, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States (also commonly known as the Anglosphere)."
Can we really flip them off because we are too damn lazy to learn it?

Assuming you mean other than English (which could be a wrong assumption) I would say Spanish as the spanish speaking population is likely to be the one that increases the most and will be most accomodated. Many cities already require the use of spanish in some classes or that some classes be taught in Spanish (besides Spanish class).
By the way, I hope your not the bad apple my mom told me to stay away from. :-)

Japanese learning made perfect sense for the "future", 20 years ago. That's changed a little bit. So, I'd say go ahead and learn any language you enjoy, that'll make things easier for you in the long run, because foreing-language learning requires a lot of work and patience.
