There is absolutely no way to appear intelligent if you try and answer a question you have no idea what the answer is to. The fastest way to look like an idiot is to try and answer a question in ignorance. Why some people can't accept the fact they don't know everything is beyond me. Life is a learning experience. One should learn something new daily. I have no problem at all admitting when i don't know something. Admitting and accepting that is how i learn. People will teach me new things if i ask to be taught, but i will learn nothing by pretending to already knowing.

The smart thing to do if you don't know the correct answer is nothing, or if pressed for an answer, just admit you don't know the answer. Nothing wrong with not having an answer for every question.

Look at the questioner/querent in the eye and be honest. If you don't know the answer, tell him/her the truth. No need for you to be a smart alec, it does not help.

the purpose of answering is to help the other, either by solving it if you don't know the answer, not sayin anythin can be the best, but sometimes even if u don't know the answer you can say things that make the person atleast feel good rather than nothing.

Stick to questions that you know something about. If you don't understand politics, stay away from the political forums. Enjoy your Yahoo experience, and above all---have some fun.

If its an opinion, its ok to give one. If its trivia or objective type, better not guess or pretend all-knowing and give the wrong answer!

You can look smarter by saying nothing. Rather than, saying something and proving you know nothing. >> It is always better to admit you do not know something than to make something up. Admitting you do not know is at least honest. Honesty can be appreciated. Lying,... not so much.>> Plus, lying IS stupid.

Do not open mouth and insert foot. If this is in school then be prepared. Do your studying and you will know the answers. Anywhere else you can say plainly "I don't know."

You might say I'll get back to you on that and then find the answer. Or point to your ears and tell them your deaf.then walk off.

It really is ok to admit you don't know something. If a person always has to be right........that person is known to others as a
"know it all" and really no-one likes those kind of people.
