Rotties are more protective yet warm and fuzzy to their owners. My dad has one and he is a great dog! He is the best dog in our house.

As for dobermans I think they are a bit smarter. But they can be mean too. My uncle has one. It only likes men and hates women. If you are a man it will love you, but if you are a woman or girl it will act very bratty and look at you like you are inferior. I can't stand that dog...but I'm sure not all dobermans are like that. But in general I prefer rotties.

I've owned both. I prefer the Rottweiler. Rottweilers are lower energy, so take less time. They are less barky, so make better guard dogs. The Dobie was easier to train for competitive obedience. Both had a CDX degree, but the Rottie was STUBBORN and much harder to train. My Rottie is much more affecionate.
You do need to check where you live to be sure one or both are not banned. Also, if you rent, forget either one. Few landlords will allow these breeds. If you own your home, check your homewoners policy. Few insurance companies allow either of these breeds.

Check with the vicious dog laws in your community. Perhaps one or both of those breeds has restrictions where you live. That might help you decide. I think I would choose a Dob though because the yard would be a bit easier to clean. :)

Umm.... I think Dobermans. They are much less agressive, and you have a better chance with them than with rottwilers. But Rotwilers are'nt that bad. We have one on our street, and they CAN be nice,SOMETIMES.

GOOD lUCK 2 YOU!!!

Dobermens are very smart, but they are not good family dogs. They tend to take to one main person and get jealous over that person too. Rotts are great dogs as well, smart and they are generally a good family dog as long as you raise them right.

I have owned both and they are both good breeds, it just depends what your living situation is.

Both dogs are real sweethearts, but it all depends on what you are using the dog for. If trained the correct way, both dogs make excellent guard dogs (note: guard NOT ATTACK) and super-excellent family pets.
