Now i know there's nothing wrong with lively debate, but what is with all the judgements flying around here just now? And I'm talking particularly to Christians.
Now, Ok, i might be one too, and i am far from perfect, and i judge people sometimes, and i shouldn't, and so on.

But i don't think i've ever bothered to type out a question inferring things like "What do Atheists do to help people, cos i'm a Christian and i help but i bet you all don't".

I'm trying to phrase this without "casting stones" myself, but maybe, just maybe, a lot more non-Christians would be inclinced to pay a bit more attention to the Christians if they were a little bit less self-righteous (which i'm sorry if i'm coming across as now, but i know i do it too..) and a little less judgemental?

What do you think? Am i right, Christians? And how about all you Atheists? Would you have more respect for people who didn't have pre-conceived ideas about you? Or does it really not make that much difference?

we all "cast stones" as it were, it is human nature. but when we judge people without evidence, we harm everyone as a whole. why? because we then foster an air of mistrust between people. and the more we judge unfairly, the greater that mistrust, and that leads to generalizations about people of one group or another. black people for instance were thought to be inferior in mental capability. as late as WW ll for instance black people were thought not to have the capability of flying an aircraft as complex as a fighter plane. the Tuskegee airmen not only proved that wrong, they have the enviable record of being the only unit which has not lost a friendly bomber under their escort to enemy fighters.

just because a person doesnt believe in god, doesnt mean they dont lead an exemplary lifestyle, including helping their fellow man as needed.

You pose a great question, but I doubt you'll have an easy time finding an answer. Without getting into my own views on the subject, I will try a guess using logic. The bible was written by man... and whether or not 'God' was truly speaking to the people who wrote the bible, it IS going to be tainted with personal opinion based on what was known during this era. Lust is an internal feeling... love and acceptance of Jesus, or 'God' is an internal feeling... so committing "adultery in his heart", in biblical terms, is likely under the persumption 'bad urges' ARE equivalent to the act itself. Keep in mind, we're talking about a time when the functioning of the human mind was not well understood. The problem with the Bible is that it's SO open to interpretation it can mean one single entry may mean many different things to many different people... and their arguments can all seem valid. I hope someone can give you a better explanation, but I'm sure this is going to take on a whole personal meaning for most people answering.

I don't mind the judgmental people too much. Everyone judges, even though somehow it's a bad thing? It's almost instinctual. ex: "hmm.... Which one of these things can kill me? The furry little creature with big long ears, or that big black ball with 8 legs and a red shape on its belly? Hmmmmmmmmmm..."

Anyway, back on topic. The only thing that really annoys me is when these Christians go out and make idiots of themselves when they ask things like "Why do atheists think we evolved from monkeys?" All that shows is a complete disregard for the actual statements in the theory of evolution because that's nothing more than a GROSS oversimplification.

Also, why do they think all atheists believe in evolution and the big bang? I've seen many of my fellow atheists that don't believe in one/either....... WUTHEFXUP?

the Christians youa re talkinig about have 2 categories:1- they are self-rightous or 2 they have had bad experiences. myself as a Roman Catholic thus Christian,I have come accross some seriously mean people and they were mean jsut because i was Catholic. some question you mioght see "why are Born Again Christiand"....and i explain in my question that i'm not talking abouit born ALL born again Christians BUT some and my question came from the experiences of those that i met. about atheist most questions that i have is from the bad experiences that i have with SOME not ALL because i havent met every single atheist in this world. the ones i have met ridiculed me for beleiving without "scientific proof"....but in the other category some Christian are extremely self-rightous and those are the ones are dislike and also like. dislike because theya re USUALLY the ones with mistresses, bones in thier closets and are very judgemental; like because those who are not like the ones i dislike, actually try to convey the message in a certain way and are actual followers. hope i helped

Sometimes when I'm facing someone who is being overly judgmental, I remember Matthew chapter 7, and at times remind the judgmental of this passage. It's the passage that says not to judge unless you want to be judged, and it also says that before pointing out the specks of the eyes of others to first attend to the giant California redwood in your own eye first.

I would have more respect for them as a person but It wouldn't effect what I think about christianity. There are a lot of great christians. I really like kirk cameron but that doesn't give christianity any more validity.

I think you have just been voted on to my cool Christian list. Be happy. Not too many get there.
Yes I have more respect for them. Some of my better contacts on these boards are Christian. They know what I believe and I know what they beleive. We meet in the middle and I think they are great!

To each their own beliefs...if they want to believe the way they do...then thats fine by me...they have been exposed to the Lord and they chose not to accept him...but i feel like i should be able to say how i feel...they are not to shy to voice their opinions on the situation...im a proud Christian!!!

when i start to get frustrated & judgmental, it's usually because religious people try & tell me what kind of person i am. that i'm too proud, or sinful, or hateful, etc. they don't even know me. so if they don't want to be judged as ignorant, obtuse, etc., then they should take their own advice & not judge others as well.

How do I point out what it says in the scriptures to someone without appearing judgmental? I have answered some questions with verses of scripture and simply because the person does not like the answer he/she wanted the accuse you of being judgmental. I understand though it is the denial of God coming through and basically people want to do as they please. They do not want to bend the knee to God, it is called "pride".
