The ability of Jehovah's Witnesses to withstand brutal persecution is nearly legendary. Witnesses are certainly not weak or defensive regarding their faith.

Interestingly, the bible teaches that some sinners would override their consciences so regularly that their consciences would become seared and insensitive.
(1 Timothy 4:1-2) In later periods of time some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to misleading inspired utterances and teachings of demons, by the hypocrisy of men who speak lies, marked in their conscience as with a branding iron
True Christians (such as Jehovah's Witnesses) continue to train themselves to be sensitive to the leadings of holy spirit and their own bible-trained consciences.
(1 Timothy 4:7) On the other hand, be training yourself with godly devotion as your aim

The two things that most "raise people's dander" are religion and politics. These are, as one answerer suggested, vitally important to them. Religion, particularly, usually has laws demanding respect for whichever god in which the adherent believes. Hearing disbelief of such a thing is "heresy", unthinkable to some whose faith is firm. Others (such as some Jehovah's Witnesses) feel that they are being persecuted when their beliefs are questioned.
The bottom line: some people are close-minded about religion, either because they are taught to be so or because their emotional makeup makes them so. We're not all like that.

Everyone is sensitive about something on some level. Define sensitive. Consider, I could ask, Why are people who ask questions about members of religious groups JUDGEMENTAL? I think it is mostly a matter of perspective.

Because their religions are very important to them. Sort of like parents are very sensitive when it comes to their kids.

You must be new around here.
Christians (and others) in these forums absolutely MUST be tuff-skinned, or they don't last very long.
People can be very shallow and cruel.
But then, who needs to be loved more than someone who is shallow and cruel??
