That's a really broad question, hopefully my answer is what you're looking for.

Media (not just American media) shows the worst that is going on in our world. We see Muslim extremists blowing up people, crashing into buildings, etc. Media also shows Americans as violent, conceited, power-hungry warmongers - but all Americans are not like that at all.

People believe what they are shown or told, whether they realize it or not.

America also tries to make our country accepting of all religions, attitudes, beliefs, etc. - sometimes to a fault. I assume that is where you feel it is a double-standard but it is actually just trying to accept everyone and not allow the negative stereotypes to prevail.

you know that saying "if you dont understand something just assume its bad" well that the way the western society think of and about muslims and islam.. im sure if they took the time to understand and learn the religion/ culture, not the radical sh+t they air on tv, news etc etc. maybe there preconception would change, oh yeh stop listening to dum assss george bush that would make a difference also. until then there will be double standard, there will be racism etc etc.

just look at the answers you have recieved, hah hahah no double standards, bullsh**t, like to see you guys put on a scarf and walk around and see waht happens, the things people say about you etc etc.
also its is not only muslims i can agree with that.

No they don't have double standard. They know what Muslims are doing, they also know their eyes are close and mouth are open. They don't say any thing because they don't want to heart their feelings.
Muslims can never be fine till they will not trust only on The Quran. Hadieth, Tafseer, Riwayaat will always produce Muslims like us and Taliban.
It may heart the feelings of most of us but this is reality.

western society has a double standard about most things, so muslims are treated like everyone else.

When it comes to questions, why doesn't the questioner be specific so we have some idea of what's in her mind ?
Where do you find this "double standard" ? Just exactly what are you refering to ?

Personally, I think that it's just TOO much work for SOME folks to go out and actually LEARN about other societal groups. It's much easier to just see that they're different from them and to hate them based on that. It's sufficient in THEIR narrowminded views to just do that than have to go through all the hard work of LEARNING for themselves. They'd rather let OTHERS form their opiniions FOR them. It's a shame too.

no idea how to answer so vague a question...

General answer:

Double standards are common in all cultures, and are not uniquely and unfairly being applied strictly to Muslims.

muslims are living in the past as can be seen by the barbaric nature typical to most muslims( there are few good ones.)

Muslims need to educate themselves, and free women from slavery(hijab, de covering thingy), and all kinds of discrimination like 4 vitnesses for rape.
