what did your doc advise? I would try palaties, water arrobics, or just plane swimming, something low impact with the higest reward. maybe you can wrap the ankle for suppot. and I find having a friend to go with helps keep you going. I hope you keep trying it is worth it.

Have you been checked for arthritis? Tylenol should relieve your ankle pain, but you may be experiencing arthritic pain or gout, both of which can cause pain in your ankles. Bone spurs also plague walkers. You should have these thiings checked out. I have used Celebrex for this type of pain and that helped me to get out and walk more, losing more weight, which helped to alleviate the leg pain. The more you lose, the better it will be on your legs. Keep up with your program, maybe stay at 1/2 hour a day (that is good!) until you can check this out.
Gout is caused by high uric acid, it is controlled either by diet or meds. It is extremely painful, but not as chronic as arthritis.
By the way, I've lost 6 lbs this past month by increasing water intake (I drink water from noon until I go to bed), eating a salad with every veggie imaginable and lowfat dressing every day, and watching labels for high fat content.
Exercising and good diet work together to help you reach your goal-you're working hard at exercising, I hope you also are eating a well-balanced diet!
God bless you, it's hard to continue exercising when you're in pain, if you're doing that then you're truly motivated and should be successful in losing weight and getting healthy!

Ever seen those machines that look like someone just took the peddles off of a bicycle? You can set them on the floor while you sit in a chair (or whatever is comfortable) and push the peddles like you are riding a bike. It will be great exercise for your legs and abdominal muscles, but you won't have that weight straining your ankles (feet, knees, hips). (Check WalMart, Target and other discount stores--I know I have seen some even recently) When you lose some of the weight, then you'll be able to go for long walks. You'll love it!

Good for you for starting an exercise program. You probably should buy an ace bandage or ankle wrap and put this on before you do your walking. This is going to support the ankles and lessen the pain.

After walking soak your feet and ankles in hot water with 1c. of dissolved Epsom salts. do this for fifteen minutes.

Congratulations on your exercise program, and its great that you walk to work. Every little bit helps! And you aregetting started gradually - the right way. Gen that ankle stabilized, maybe your Dr. can get you an ajustable foot brace...

Try swimming. I use it as my exercise even though I am not trying to lose weight. I use it for mobility and exercise. It helps me move by 550 plus pounds. I also walk. I tried other sports - basketball, racquetball, golf - all of which I have stopped since I simply don't move well enough. Walking and swimming work.

think about a stationary bike, or an elyptical machine. You'll be able to burn calories, and there will be less strain on your joints. Swimming is a great full-body work out, also -and again, there will be much less stress put on your joints. Keep working, you'll get there.

Flex and relax your ankle muscles for several minutes a day. Get a foot and ankle massage if you can.
