Yea i know what you are going through, i broke my neck and sustained a spinal cord injury Little over ten years ago. I have been on strong painkillers since then. They make me tired and lazy, They have pretty much sucked all my energy up. But without them i would be in miserable pain. So what do i do< Or we do. Its a catch 22 situation. anyhow, i wish ya luck doll. and im sorry about your pain.

Well, most pain medications (especially the strong ones) cause nausea as a side effect. Unfortunately, the severity of nausea changes from patient to patient. It can be lessened by taking the medication with food or an anti-emetic (anti-nausea) medication. Your surgeon or doctor might be able to prescribe an anti-emetic along with the pain prescription (like Phenergan or Zofran) to ease the side effects. Phenergan comes as a suppository so you don't have to worry about vomiting it up and not getting the full effect from it. Depending on the surgery, you might not have much of a choice because you'll need something strong enough for the pain. Good luck!

I had a lumbar fusion myself and the best remedy for me was moving to a drier state and I am enjoying today a better life healthwise in Utah from Connecticut where I used to live and suffer daily from the pains and agonies of stiffness in my back and legs. I am also off most of my meds due to the weather. So if u r soooooo really sick and tired of taking pain killers and the such do something about it and stop complaining so much, move, simple as that. Utah, Arizona and Texas r also part of the USA and r beautiful states to live in too. And please don't reply me with any excuses such as family and expenses where there is a will there is a way, been there done that and I really don't care to hear them. U have the power to do something about ur health if u really wanted to. Good luck to u.

I'm SOOOOOOOOOO SICK of being told to "just take Advil". Do you know what it's like to be in pain and NOT be given any meds??? I mean, no I don't want to be stuck on narcotics for the rest of my life, I just want to be able to function while I'm going through therapy and trying to FIX the problem.....which my doctor is doing absolutely nothing about either!!! I have sciatica and her only advice is to quit my second job. Yeah, pay me $300-$400 a week and maybe I will consider it.

I certainly understand your pain. I've had major surgeries on almost every part of my body and I don't like taking medical drugs. I do everything I can to keep from having to use much medicine. I do hot baths and massage therapy on a regular basis. This keeps me from going through hell every day. I used to take narcotic pain relievers. Because of regular therapy I no longer have to take them, I'm able to get by on weaker medications .
