I have been walking 3 days a week for a week and one day this week I start it a dance routine cardio exercises. The pain that I went thru that night I can't explain. I thought I was gonna die. My hole body aches. It was so horrible I couldn't move all night, got high fever and couln't stop crying. Please, is this normal? I am 40 years old. I used to be very active and want to go back to feel good again exercising. Oh, I have been taking Advil for the pain and it helps but my hole body is still in pain so I coulnd't exercise today. What should I do? Is this going to go away. Am afraid of back pain and neck specially after been treated with my quiroprectice doctor for a while.
Thanks.

You need to warm up and do a little at a time. Walk for 20 minutes each day for a week then slowly jog then run. Don't work out every day full throttle. It takes the body 4 to 6 weeks to get back into the swing of things.
Try some stretching before and after. Take a hot bath to help loosen tight muscles. As you get stronger you will soon start to feel how much easier it is to Run for 20 minutes. Then you can add to your routine.
The main thing is don't stop exercising. The more you exercise the more you will not have to ramp up to the more demanding routines.

Good Luck and Stay with it!

Viva..I feel for you, first I would like to know... how long has it been since you did anything physical? I am 51 yrs young. The longest 1 have been w/o exercise has been 1 year. 1 1/2 tops..I just started doing Karate ( mixed martial arts). Talk about pain!!!!! but it has been relatively less., or at least bareable...If you are not under an instructor you may have forgotten the "how to do it correctly" ways... ergo you maybe hurting yourself. Do it slowly, and then after 30 days or so, increase...when you feel that you have come to a plateau... increase enough to feel pain, but to the point that you cry! execise we should look forward to... not be petrofied of!!!!

your body is not use to the new movements. It's going to take time for your muscles to adapt. Give yourself a three day rest before you start back.

Take a hot bath with 2c. of dissolved Epsom salts. Soak for 30 minutes. The Epsom salts will help eliminate the lactic acid that forms on the muscles from over exertion.

Massage an analgesic cream into the sore muscles. I find the best cream for pain is “Blue Emu,” You can read more about this cream at http://www.blue-emu.com/

Dehydration can cause severe pain in the muscles. I recommend you drink purified water mixed with mineral water 50/50. This will replace the minerals that are exiting your body continuously.

I suggest that adults and children drink 40 ounces of water per 100 pounds of body weight every day. Realize that exercise, ambient temperature, and state of health affect the water needs of your body. One tip for athletes: it is healthier to drink a sports drink or water than fruit juice, soda, coffee, or milk during competition or active training periods.

500mg of calcium and magnesium, taken twice daily, can help with diminishing the pain.

You have to stay at it! The soreness will go away in a week or so after your body gets used to working out again. If you have specific pain.. ie. back pain or neck pain, it's not a good sign, but if it's just overall pain it is probably no big deal. Consult a doctor or trainer to find out what excercises to avoid and which one to do for your neck. You ahve to strengthen it to get yourself healthy again. Don't worry, you'll be fine. If the pain continues, go to a doc.

That is not normal, you probably over-did it. Start out your routine slowly (just do half of it) so that you can slowly get your body used to the more strenous activity. Then gradually increase the length of time and the extensions of your movements. Also, try to stretch your muscles after your dance routine so that they don't feel so sore the next day.

It sounds to me like you just over did it. The first time you work out you should always start out easy. After a while you'll be able to do more difficult work outs. Also before every work out you should always do a few warm up exercises. You also need to stretch out your muscles before you work out.

My wife had this as well and went to see a doctor. It could be a Potassium shortage in your body and possibly dehydration. Eat a banana a day and drink plenty of water, was what her doctor told her. It worked. Potassium helps muscles function and repair themselves properly.

That is your bodies way of telling you that you over did it. I always eat bananas when this happens.
