Personally I like to take the time o shop for gift because to me, it means more thought was taken. But when I come across this dilemma I like to go the easy route and do a gift certificate.
In this case, a housewarming, I would go with a gift card from someplace like HomeDepot, Lowes, Pier One or some other home decorating store. These kinds of gift certificates are always appreciated and always used at some point for new home owners.

Well...I like flowers and plants. You can go purchase some pretty flowers and then buy a nice "trendy" vase from Ross. They are MAD cheap and pretty cool. But only if you know their decore and color schemes. But bottles are nice. I did a Rosa Regale' bottle (about $12), and put in basket with fresh strawberries and some Nutela, that was a CLASSIC! And pretty cheap. Maybe add some cheap candles and you just gave them a nice night!

When I purchased my home, I received many Gift Cards such as Home Depot, Lowes, Bed Bath & Beyond and even Kroger. I really liked all of them since buying new accents, fixing, remodeling and stocking the refrigerator were all priorities in my new home.
Hope this helped!

Perhaps a piece of artwork or a sculpture, but only if you are coinfident that you know their taste. Otherwise, how about a really nice pair of wine glasses? You can never have too many of those.
Have you considered making them something? It can be much more personal and you are guaranteed that they won't have anything like it.

Something that is classic and never goes out of style is a silver picture frame.
If your friend collects anything, why not give them something that they can add to their collection?
Gardening Bucket with garden tools, gloves, seeds, pruners, and gardening magazines
Emergency Chocolate kit - a snack tin, or other container, filled with different types of chocolate snacks.
Bathroom Bliss - A basket filled with all sorts of things to pamper yourself in the bathroom (candles, bubblebath, soaps, sponge etc).

Do they garden? Seeds or bulbs for future planting. A gift certificate to Home Depot/Lowe's works pretty well. Even when you move into a brand new home, there's always stuff to be fixed or adjusted!

Lo, a good gift for a couple who have everything is a consumable. That is, a nice bottle of wine, a basket of delicacies, a long term scented candle or a special blend of coffee that they might like!
Anything that will be used us is a welcome gift and they will appreciate your thoughtfulness!
Wish them well!

A housefire would warm it nicely.
Sorry.
Bad taste.
Insomnia.
Crack! Forgot to take my meds last night because I never went to bed.
As you were.
*Edit: I'd give me a thumbs-down too. I apologize, that answer was totally unlike me. I never got to sleep last night, and sleep deprivation can do funky things to ya. I was gonna delete my response, but that would be the easy way out. I said something tasteless and crass, and I think I should own up to it.
Again, I apologize for my original answer - do they have a picture of you, in a frame that you made? Email me, I'll tell you how to do it. Not difficult at all to make, but very personal and definitely one-of-a-kind.
