You answered your own question here. Stupidity is running rampant here on YA. People are not interested in what works, they just want to have their opinions validated.

Giving your dog Benadryl because it is acting "strange" just doesn't make any sense. My 8 month old puppy does take Benadryl -- as was recommended by his vet -- for seasonal allergies. I know some people give it to their pets before traveling to help sedate them, but again, only under advisement from their vet and at a dose that is appropriate for their size.
But it is important to keep in mind that Benadryl does not always make a dog sleepy. Like humans, some dogs react in the opposite way and become hyperactive when given an antihistamine (which is not a steroid). So if your vet has given you the a-okay, be sure to give it a test run before you use it to calm your dog on a long plane trip or you could end up in quite the predicament.

Benadryl is very effective, when used for the proper reasons. All it does is work like a mild steroid. So it does have a place in the medicine cabinet. If and when you have a dog go into anaflectic shock from an insect bite / bee sting, or annual booster shot you will sure wish you had some (if not prednasone instead) Your dog may very well be dead by the time you get to a vets office.
What Benadryl DOES NOT DO is solve any behavioral problems that people keep suggesting it be used for. Behavioral problems take a completely different class of drugs if they need to be treated chemically. Just because the dog is a little sleepy doesn't mean that anything was done to solve this type of problem. There are Prozac class drugs for dogs.

Most behaviour issues can be dealt with by learning how to handle the dog and the situation. Drugs are not the answer, they just mask the problem. Drugs are for people who have no idea what else to do. Or are to lazy to deal with it.
Benadryl is prescribed by vets for allergies and behaviour issues. Benadryl causes drowsiness and that's what it will do to the dog to "Calm Him". A drowsy dog, is just that, drowsy, therefore is behaviour is limited. It's a sedative and should only be prescribed in sever cases. A good dose of exercise will accomplish the same thing.
It's not you...you haven't been shot in the head and thank god, I haven't either.

For the same reason why so many people take it upon themselves to prescribe asprin or other OTC medications when they have no clue waht they are talking about...it is extremely dangerous (not to mention against the law) for people to even be recommending medications and/or dosages. People on the internet (licensed vets & techs included) do NOT know a persons dog, it's medical history, it's condition, etc by telling someone to use a particular product or a particular dosage they could be causing serious harm even death to that pet if the person takes them seriously and does it..Just because a particular med was prescribed for your dog does NOT mean it is safe or right for someone elses.

Probably cause it's easier and cheaper than seeing the vet.. If your dog is all doped up they can ignore the fact that there is something wrong.. They are here asking question trying to find someone who will tell them that they are doing the right thing.. They don't want the real answer they want the answer that they want to hear.. Validation that what they thought was right, is right.. Then when something goes bad, they can blame someone else..
People drug their dogs and their kids.. Keeps them both out of their hair and they don't have to deal with the problem they are creating or not dealing with.

Your info on yourself says you're "in the university". If you're a student, you should have learned how to spell. You also should have learned that, if you want to ask a question and be taken seriously, you should NOT use obscene language in your phrasing.
If you work with rescue, you should know how to spell Benadryl.
If Benadryl was bad for dogs, then vets would not be prescribing it for some situations. It depends on the situation, and anyone who receives this suggestion should always call their vet to clear it with their own vet. Sadly, a lot of people asking on here indicate that they don't want to or can't afford to take the dog to the vet.
You should clean up your mouth an stop talking like a knuckle dragging truck driver (apologies to the intelligent drivers).

benedryl is not necessarily dangerous when administered correctly. the only reason i can think people would say that is out of fear the dog is having an allergic reaction. it is common for vets to adiminster it after bee stings, allergies to shots and things of that nature. but it should be given by a vet because overdose could be harmful even fatal. i do not recommend giving it to your dog for strange behavior though. strange behavior could be due to many different things such as anxiety, illness, brain tumor. my advice is avoid the uneducated drivvel coming from these people and when worried about your animal take it to the vet.

The same reason why those people are unable to take care of anything living genuinely. If acting strange or in a way they find "abnormal" or "unnatural" drug them with medication until they are so out of their mind and reality that they become nothing but zombies instead of full of natural, happy life.

For an allergic reaction Benydryl is fine and most often recommended by vets verses a steriod shot.
If a dog is bleeding or not breathing you should see a vet.
