Personally, I would say about 25%. Maybe 100 to 150 out of 550. And why do many refer to these "victims" as survivors?
A survivor, the last I checked, means someone who survives a deadly encounter.

Don H, totally absurd answer. And from the dictionary: survivor: one who continues to exist. a person that remains alive. As from an accident.

And, Don, I am sure that the liberals have installed new meanings to the term to suit their needs. Quite funny. But so true.

So, grannyof5, if someone makes a claim against you and you know it is not true, should we find you guilty anyway out of compassion?

We'd be naive if we didn't think there was an element of deception involved, in some cases, in order to "cash in"'; it's the same mentality we saw at work after Hurricane Katrina, when some "victims" who received the FEMA money turned out to be imposters. It's one of the least pretty aspects of our nature that when we smell money, we do and say some outrageous things.
That said ... I am inclined to give the settlement participants the benefit of the doubt because there's no way to know for certain whether all the cases are genuine, and with something like this it's best to err on the side of compassion. To have been truly abused, and be called a liar, is to be abused twice.

I agree that it's probably less than stated - but I don't agree that those who were truly abused are not survivors. They ARE survivors. Sexual abuse can make an incredible mess of one's life, and some people never heal from it.
What's really too bad is that those who are victims aren't getting even half that money - it's going to the greedy lawyers.

Probably 30-50%
The reason they're often referred to as survivors is that many feel like being constantly referred to as victims serves to revictimize them; so they use the term "survivor" to capture their feeling that they've survived a traumatic event.

I have to admit I have wondered about this. It's not very PC but I do imagine there might be some fraud involved here. There are people who would be willing to make those claims to get the big payout.

Probably all, no doubt many more who didn't come forward. Some may have killed themselves or died another way before the settlement.

Perhaps I am naiive, but I doubt that the victims are liars as why would a man put himself through all of the scandal to get ill gotten money

You are very lucky that you don't understand the meaning of the term survivor.
The real question is how many victims are to traumatized or embarrassed to enter into the settlement.
