The fastest and easiest way is to take it to a Ford dealer, they can plug a diagnostic computer into the data link connector and retrieve the code in about 2 minutes. Most dealer will do this quite cheaply, we do it for free to help build customer relations.

In my sisters Expedition it's located in the rear of the vehicle. She raises the back door and I believe it's on the left side behind that removable panel, written on a piece of paper from the manufacturer.

If you have the manual it may tell you where to look i know that some fords will have a plate somewhere that tells you what it is...
