I have found that Tidy Cat or Scoop Away FOR MULTIPLE CATS (even though you are only going to have one) works the best. IMPORTANT NOTE: Do NOT use the SCENTED kind for kittens--this could drive your kitten away from the litter box, as kittens have such a great sense of smell and can be very sensitive to the scented brands. As she/he grows into adulthood, you might try mixing some of the scented kind in with the un-scented and see if this is acceptable with your kitty. Best of luck with your new kitty.

I use Scoop Away. It really does clump well & controls odors so well that nobody would know I've got a litter box. I scoop it twice a day, and I've got a covered garbage pail next to the litter pan so the used litter smell doesn't invade my home. As for litter pans, I would probably just buy a regular old plastic pan from the dollar store at first. Some cats don't like the kind with the lid over top or the litter-maid type boxes & won't use them. So it's best to start out with the basic design before you try anything too fancy.

Fresh Step Scoopable litter is what we've used. Without the crystals, though. A lot of cats don't like to step on the crystals. It hurts their feet.
Get a covered litter box. It will help contain the smell better. Also get Arm & Hammer Cat litter box deoderizer. There is a Tidy Cats one but that one doesn't work. At least it didn't for me.
Some covered boxes come with a filter that helps filter out smells. You'll have to change it and obviously buy new ones to do that.
Good luck!

we use scoop away multi cat, have 2 cats, we scoop daily if possible. you can sprinkle banking soda in the box to help absorb odors.
start the kitten out in a small litter box then move to a larger one when it's a lil bigger, or big enough to get into a larger one. i use the ones with a cover so they don't kick litter all over when digging to potty in the box.
congrats on the new arrival!

I like Fresh step and also I add those crystals to extend the life of the litter. Also, use good quality kitten food and their poop won't smell so bad. Have fun with your new kitty!

I use Feline Pine it is great at absorbing urine odors, but doesn't do much for feces.

Natural properties in the Pine allow it to absorb moisture and lock in odors that clay just can’t eliminate. Because our unique drying process completely dehydrates the Pine, it eagerly absorbs moisture on contact, just like a sponge. Pine also naturally neutralizes ammonia, which is the cause of the strong smell associated with cat urine.

FRESH STEP! It's fantastic. I have two cats and I don't smell anything. Just make sure you clean the box out every day.
Congrats on your new kitty!
