I would only keep a promise to anyone, be that alive and well or dying, if it were absolute truth. Truth is always the best policy and its the only way to honor God and live your life.
Never make a promise you cant keep. When we lie to others < God knows about it, and it comes with serious consequences.
And, by the way, noone should marry someone of another faith, as God says we shouldnt be unequally yolked, some try to say that means interracial marriage. NO NO NO> God makes it clear, if we marry outside our faith, it weakens our faith. WE are to marry a like believer. period. so dont marry outside your religion and then you can promise that person that you will keep that promise and do so. If we all do what God says to do, we would save ourselves so much grief in this world. God bless you for asking. Just ask God and all will be ok. Pray and study Gods word for all the answers you need are THERE>

I DID make a promise. My identical twin sister died 17 years ago. I promised her that I would do the things she always wanted to do and never got a chance to do.
I have rock climbed, rappelled, white water rafted, been on trips by myself, and I still have to go sky diving.
When my mother was dying, I promised her I would NEVER put her in a nursing home. I knew I would not have to make a choice, for the doctor told me she had only 6 weeks to live.
SO, yes. I would make a promise like that.
I would not make a promise I could not keep.

Sure. Whatever would make them feel better. It's not like I'd keep the promise if I didn't agree with it, but I'd say anything to comfort a dying individual.

I only make promises that I'm able to keep so it would depend on the promise.

Why not? What are they going to do, come back and haunt you? If it makes them feel better in their last few moments alive then as a compassionate human being of course I would.
