Yes, Christ does give you the strength to not sin. In Hebrews 2:18, it is stated, "For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succor them that are tempted." Succor means to help or aid.
He also makes a way of escape. In I Corinthians 10:13, it says, "There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it."
So we will not be tempted more than we can withstand. Christ aids us to withstand. But, we, as Christians, have to have the mindset to choose to accept His help. If we decide to give in to the temptation, well, that is our choice. The better choice is to submit to God and resist the devil as James states. Peter tells us to be sober and vigilant because the devil is seeking whom he may devour. We are to resist steadfast in the faith.

Christians have the power not to sin. Jesus Christ has given us grace and sin shall not have dominion over us (Romans 6:14). We have the abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness to reign in life ie to conquer sin (Romans 5:17). When we walk in the Spirit we will not fulfill the lust of the flesh (Galatian 5:16). We can reckon ourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus and not let sin reign in our mortal bodies (Romans 6:11,12). We are dead to sin (Romans 6:2).

The strength you seek is there for the asking. I have used the power of Christ to resist temptation often, and it has never failed me. The power of Christ banishes anger, jealousy, and impure thoughts. Get thee away from me, Satan.

You know the scriptures say to submit yourselves therefore to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you.
The point here is that a person is submitting to God.
In doing so, you are resisting the devil, and the result is that he flees. From you, yes, but not because we have any great power of ourselves, but because of OUR SUBMISSION to God.
Apparently, the devil can't grab ahold of what God has.
