Yes, which explains the Coke machine in the Family History Center.

I think the following statement by Spencer W. Kimball, who was the prophet and president of the church some years ago, best clarifies the principles involved here:
“I never drink any of the cola drinks and my personal
hope would be that no one would. However, they are
not included in the Word of Wisdom in its technical
application. I quote from a letter from the secretary
to the First Presidency, ‘But the spirit of the Word of
Wisdom would be violated by the drinking or eating of
anything that contained a habit-forming drug.’ With
reference to the cola drinks, the Church has never
officially taken any attitude on this at but I personally
do not put them in the class as with the tea and coffee
because the Lord specifically mentioned them [the hot
drinks].”
The difference between what is prohibited by scripture and what leaders of the church counsel us to avoid is really connected to our personal level of commitment.

Yes we can but are cautioned not to.
The word of wisdom covers many areas, but there are certain prohibited substances that will keep you out of the temple and leadership rolls.
Coffee, Tea, alcohol, tobacco, and non-prescribed drugs.
The word of wisdom covers much more than that though. It is a great health code way before it's time.
If all were followed by all Mormons you would never see a fat Mormon.
I gave up caffeine sodas and all sodas for health reasons 6 months ago and I feel better for it -- I recommend it really, but I do not judge those who choose differently than me (even those who partake of the above mentioned prohibitions)

Sure. The Word of Wisdom teaches that "hot drinks are not for the body or belly". I take my softdrinks cold. The colder the better! :-)
Seriously, the leaders of the LDS church have defined "hot drinks" as coffee and tea. There is no official church teaching that caffeinated softdrinks are prohibited.

I think they are advised to stay away from caffeine, so soft drinks would be out as well as coffee and alcohol.

I do. Every bishop I've ever asked says that it's between me and God, but it won't keep me from getting a temple recommend.
