mutt mutt mutt!!!
Your best bet is to go to your local shelter and find a wonderful "MUTT" they are the best!! smile... tell the people at the shelter what YOU have to offer this new family member then tell them what you expect to get out of this new relationship... smile GOOD LUCK!!!!!
plus you will be saving a life!!!! Here is a great website info that might help you out:(an a couple more..)
So you'd like to get a dog, but you're not sure what kind. Purebred? Mutt? There are certain advantages to owning a mixed-breed dog, believe it or not.
1. Mixed-breeds are often healthier. With purebreds, there are certain health problems that are particular to the breed. Mixed-breeds may develop those health problems, but they may escape them thanks to their mixed heritage. Some purebreds have health problems simply due to certain exaggerated breed traits -- like short faced dogs with bulging eyes tend to have eyes pop out! A mixed breed may be less likely to experience something like that.
2. Mixed-breeds can live longer than purebreds. A healthier dog can live longer than a dog that is predisposed to major health issues. Genetic issues that are caused by recessive genes may not show up in a cross-breed thanks to other dominant genes from the parents.
3. Mixed-breeds often have the best qualities of each parent breed. Look at the popularity of "labradoodles" -- the personality of a Labrador and the low-shed coat of a Poodle.
4. A shelter pet will cost less than a purebred pet. Purebred puppies can cost several hundred dollars from a reputable breeder! A shelter pet may come with an adoption fee of a hundred dollars -- AND a coupon for a free neutering.
5. A shelter pet often knows that you saved them, and will be all the more loving and loyal -- and rewarding for you!

Well as for a no shedding dog....you could buy a Hairless Chinese Crested. The Hairless, with only hair on the head, tail and feet, are indoor pets, and excellent for people with allergies. No shedding, fleas or ticks. They will need a sweater in the cold of Winter, and Sun-Block in the Summer to protect delicate skin.
And as for the barking issue you could buy a Basenji. The Basenji produces an unusual yodel-like sound, due to its unusually shaped larynx. Although Basenjis do not bark per se, they can mimic sounds, and thus are able to mimic barks if raised among barking dogs.
Good Luck. Thought I would give you some ideas.

I would opt to go to the shelter and pick out a small-medium sized dog with short hair. Get an adult so you will know how big he'll be - and he'll be pretty much over the chewy stage.
Now, all dogs bark - that's their nature. So pick out a mild-mannered one - not timid - but not overly hyper, either.
Also, all dogs shed - to some extent - which is why I suggested a short-haired dog. Fluffy dogs - even miniature Pomeranian (nice dogs BTW) shed like nobody's business.

Honestly get a toy. You cant expect dog not to shed or bark... it will happen... If I was you I would get a cat... Doesnt make much noise you don't have to walk it and if you'll get that bold cat no worry about sheding... You have to understand one thing... smaller breeds will bark more than bigger dogs, yet since they so small sheding is not an issue. If you can deal with barking you can get any short hair breed. If you can't don't get a dog

Well if you don't have little kids, A pomeranian, chihuahua or maybe a small terrier. I have a pomeranian and a chihuahua and there great little dogs to have they love car rides and really aren't that hard to take care of. All dogs bark but some are better than others just have to pick the right dog :] There are a lot of small dogs but i think there one of the best 2.

Sometimes small dogs have a tendency to be more 'barkie,they can be highly stressed and shake a lot, we have a mini doxie, smoothehaired, little shedding,no odor,etc, the smaller the dog, the smaller the pooh!!!! good luck, just get a dog book about the breed of dog you do purchase, and for heavens sakes get one from a reliable breeder!!!! check them out!!!!. it can mean the difference in a healthy dog or not!!! Good luck.........:-)<>{
Best choice, go to your local animal shelter, there are many adorable dogs longing for someone to love them and give them a good home!!!!

Rather than suggest a breed, I suggest visiting the American Kennel Club website. They list all the info for every breed and they have a wonderful survey to take that matches breed characteristics to your needs. If you're looking for small, companionable, low maintenance and playful...you'll find a list of breeds and links to breeders to supply puppies to order. We became Boxer lovers this way and now work with the Boxer rescue organizations to adopt abandoned dogs.
Good luck!

Pugs are really sweet. I have a pug, he barley barks, only when he heres someone at the door, and when he heres fireworks. Pugs can be really small, but they can get really fat.
Anther dog is a chihuahua. I also have two of them. I mean they only bark when they see people in the house unfamiliar. There really lovable, and loyal to there owner.
