Depressed. My summer holiday has just started 20 minutes ago but the weather is awful and wet so I'm going to be stuck in unless it clears up.

Well, working in retail as a cashier, I get asked this often, I usually reply with a, "Meh, I'm all right, how are you?" and most of the time, they don't even reply... As of this particular moment in time though, I'm -excited- for HP7, and annoyed that I do not have a car at the moment...

These are just general responses otherwise, try to be candid depending on the mood of the person who asked. At times people just say it without meaning it, they don't really care but a good "how are you" can never go unnoticed.

I almost always say “fine and you” just because people how are you has replaced a simple greeting as “Hello”. When I really tell people how I am they are usually stumped and forced to listen because they don’t expect anything more then ok.

Simply "I'm well, thank you". How are you is a greeting not a question. No one wants to know how you really are so the correct response is as noted and if you wish to add "And you:" you should expect the same response.

I live in the South where people ask that all the time. I just say "Good, how are you?" and try to look at them and be sincere.

normally i try to answer back with a answer that isn't "good" or "ok". i like to stretch my answer into "im ok right now and how r u?" or something that is reali true

oh i would be very excited and happy, least concerned whether the person is my enemy or friend . i would rejoice in the moment. i will bear very warm and sunny facial expressions to make the one who approached me to ask how i m?, feel welcomed and awarded.so i would look straight into the persons eye and say hi!!!!!! how r uuuu!!!!!.

If I didn't know them very well, "Fine and you?" If I knew them well and thought they were being sincere, I would tell them exactly how my day was going good or bad.
