You can quit smoking, and here are some tips to help you get started today!

- Throw away any cigarettes that you have left. Having them there in your sight will make it so much harder to quit smoking.
- Try using gum or candy every time you feel the need to smoke. If this doesn’t work, you can try medical products like nicotine gums or patches to help you quit smoking.
- When you feel the need for a cigarette, take deep breaths for about 3 to 4 minutes. (Don’t hyperventilate, just breathe slowly.)
- Keep a journal about your attempt to quit smoking. Looking back over it will motivate you to keep going, especially if you see how hard you’ve worked.
- When you think you want to smoke, take a ten minute walk. Think about how hard you’ve tried and what you have accomplished. Think of your children, or your spouse, or any other reason you have to quit smoking.
- Often, the habit of smoking is missed more because you have nothing to do with your hands. It’s psychological. Try doing something with your hands while you quit, such as crocheting, learning to play the guitar, or drawing.
- Contact a support group. Going through this can be hard, and speaking to other people who are going through it as well or have already gone through it can make it easier. It’s nice to vent your feelings to someone who will understand exactly what you mean.

One of the things to keep in mind is that you can think of all the good reasons to quit smoking, even including the fact that your hair and your clothes smell like smoke long after you've finished that cigarette. You can tell yourself that you are doing it for other people, but the most successful reason to quit smoking is to do it for YOU. That's right, do it for yourself, for your health, to reduce your expenses, for all of those reasons. If you do it for YOU instead of totally for someone else, the chances that you will stick to it is much greater, because you will hold yourself accountable to YOU.

Only if you have the WILL POWER you can achieve quitting of smoking.

You will be so glad when you are able to kick this habit. The feeling of achievement is something that you will never lose. You will be healthier, happier, and proud. Get started today and good luck. You can do it!-

since you smoke that much everyday, your body got adjusted having these poisons running ur body. That's why people with more serious drug problems can actually die by quiting abruptly. You hav to take decrease your amount of cigarettes maybe every few weeks or whatever you're comfortable with. The reason why you were coughing and stuff (tryign to not smoke) was because your body was so used to having 2-5 cigarettes a day. So each week you should decrease slowly from 2-4cigarettes, then another few weeks, 2-3, then so on.

There are a couple good suggestions above. "Don't smoke" isn't helpful.

I did it gradually. I determined that I smoked 30 cigs a day. So on Monday I allowed myself 29 cigs maximum per day. Then the next Monday I allowed myself 28 cigs per day. Then the next week 27 cigs per day.

It was easy. I got all the way to 2 cigs a day. It was hard to go further, but 2 is much better than 30. After about 2 years at 2 cigs a day, I finally quit totally. That was seven years ago now.

It helps to have healthy snacks around, and it helps to have a supportive spouse around.

I am proud of myself for quitting. I can't believe I used to smoke, and smoke so much!

Good luck. You can do it. You gotta do it.

The first thing you require for quitting smoking is your will power and a solid resolve. You need to overcome 2 factors.

a) Withdrawal symptoms like mood change, anger, depression, insomnia and headaches.

b) beat the Nicotine craving.

Along with your will power use an external aid. There are a lot of quit smoking aids available like gums and patches etc. I recommend a natural remedy from my experience. I used a natural remedy 'Crave Rx'. It is effective and has no side effects.

Do you really want to quit? If you're not 100% dedicated to quitting, it'll never work. Yeah, there's gum and patches and medicine, and all that other stuff, but you need the will power. Otherwise nothing will work, no matter how hard you try.

Best of luck on quitting!

Word has it, that trying to quit smoking is one of hardest addictions to accomplish. First off try cutting back slow. "Cold turkey won't work."! It's just to difficult to do by yourself.Second, try hanging around friends that don't smoke. stay away from bar's & nightclubs etc.Third, go to a doctor for better advice. Good Luck and Godspeed.

There's a new prescription out called Chantix that seems to be helping a lot of people. And surprisingly it's covered on insurance most of the time.

The Nicoderm CQ patches work well also.

The thing is, with any of these, you have to commit to quit.
