Hi folks, I just bought a Philips DVD player DVP3015K and it worked perfectly fine in the appliance store, no complications whatsoever. I just brought it home and tried to hook it up (and yes, I put in all the cables correctly) and the screen is totally distorted. The user manual says that "there will be a distorted picture on your TV at this state until you turn on the progressive scan mode on your TV." My TV doesn't seem to have any progressive scan mode! All other trouble shooting was to no avail. There's a menu on the screen where you can select your settings, but that's hardly useful if the screen is distorted and you can't read it. Is there any other (corrrect) way to do it? I desperately need help to get this DVD player working. Thanks!

I googled it some more and it seems that it may have something to do with a so-called progressive scan mode. If your TV does not have a progressive scan mode too, does that mean that a DVD player with progressive scan mode would be incompatible with it? Or is there any remedy for that?

What is you TV model number? It is hard to tell what your settings should be without this. You could also see If the cables are damaged. What brand of cable are you using?

Need some more info to help you proper!

Progressive is a digital thing and only works with wither componet cables (the green, blue and red ones) or HDMI cable. you will probably get a distorted picture if you are not using one of these to cables. if you are using normal 21 pin scart or RCA (the red, white and yellow cable) which it sounds like you are you don't need progressive on, just switch it off in the DVD players menu.

DO THIS:
Turn off your TV progressive scan mode or turn on to interlaced mode. (refer to your TV user manual.)
(1)Press OPEN/CLOSE (or EJECT) on the DVD player to open the disc tray.
(2)Press numeric keypad ‘1’ on the remote control for a few seconds. The DVD blue background screen will appear on the TV.

If this is a recorder as well try sliding the cover on the bottom 1/3 section of the remote down.
You will see a number of extra controls such as record etc. There is a button labelled "PROGRESSIVE" press that one. Good Luck!

My suggestion is to ring up the place that you bought it from and ask them how they set it up. I'm sorry I can't be of more help.
