Little Neck is a nice quiet bedroom community on the edge of New York City limits in Queens. It's very far from any subway stops though, so it's going to be a bit difficult to get to the rest of New York City by public transportation from there.
If you want to go to Manhattan, make your way to Flushing (about 4-5 miles to the east on Northern Boulevard) by either car or bus, and hop on the # 7 subway train from there to get into Manhattan. Or if you don't mind spending more, take the Long Island Railroad (I think the Port Washington branch has a stop in Little Neck).
If you don't want to bother with Manhattan, you can get around fine with your car out there. Places to go and things to do with a car:
- As mentioned above, the Bronx Zoo and other attractions in the outer boroughs are accessible by car. Judging from your handle you probably want to hit Yankee Stadium to watch a game or two.
- The Roosevelt Field shopping mall about 10 miles to the east at Garden City. Probably the most well-known shopping and entertainment complex on Long Island (shopping, restaurants, movie theaters).
- If you like nature, there are various L.I. nature conservancies out east, like Planting Fields Arboretum in Oyster Bay and parks such as Caumsett State Park out in Lloyd's Harbor.
- There are fun museums out there, such as the Cradle of Aviation Museum (which has an IMax theater) in Uniondale.
- BEACHES!! Jones Beach State Park and Robert Moses State Park on the south shore.
- Just explore eastern Queens or Nassau County on a bike using the quieter side streets. Quite a good workout. Personally I like biking along the shoreline in Douglaston and along the Cross Island Parkway bike path. Very nice views.
That's off the top of my head. Hope this helps.
