Hi, last month I finished my 3 mth course of Lamisil for a toenail fungus on my big toe.. I swear, this nail is not growing! I have a couple of questions - first of all, is it possible that the nail will never grow out- has it just stopped growing due to the fungus? Also in the meantime, while growing out, is it ok to paint the nail with nail polish? I don't want to make it worse.

No, your nail will not stop growing! I'm sorry that you doctor didn't tell you that toenails grow notoriously slow. It will take 8 months for your toenail to grow out! Also, sometimes, lamisil doesn't work for everyone. (I am one of those. I took three 3 month courses of it with no improvement).

Please do not use nail polish...particularly dark polish. Nail polish will trap moisture into the nail and moisture and darkness are what fungus thrives on! You would be giving the fungus a perfect growing environment.

Ouchy! I hate to say it, but I got a finger caught in an apparatus on a patient bed and it took over a year for the nail to look completely normal again. The nail grew back, but it was ugly for that length of time. Sorry.
