I found my kitten around 5-6 weeks old. Now at about 10 weeks old he started to come running to me crying. He has to jump in my lap (and countinues to meow constatnly), and tries to get as close to my face as possible. He also likes to lick me and suck on me A LOT!! I have noticed he does the licking and sucking more when he is tired; he kneeds too and it seems to put him to sleep.

I was wondering why is he starting to do this now? Why does he also want to be near my face?

The licking and sucking is partly because he was probably weaned a little too soon and taken from his mom a little too soon, the licking is also his way of grooming you. He loves you ALOT and as a previous person said he now sees u as his mommy. The crying thing is just an attention thing. Just make sure that he is eating properly. If he's not eating then the crying could be that he's in pain. I wouldn't really worry. Sounds really cute.

My cat doesnt meow much but she licks a lot (not sure why) she is about 7 months old now she also likes to be close to my face thats just a cat thing the pawing (kneeding) is also a cat thing they all do it - as for the sucking I have had a cat do that before and was told at the time it means that the cat was taken from its mother too early and as you found it at 5-6 weeks Im guessing this is what has happened as kittens shouldnt leave their mother till at least minimum 6-8 weeks. My cat was about 9 weeks when I bought her from a pet shop but there is no telling when they were actually taken from their mother so maybe licking is another sign of this?? Im not sure my other personal theory on licking is that they spend a lot of time cleaning themselves by licking and maybe your cat is trying to clean you up for you.

OH meowing a lot can be a breed thing - does your cat have any siamese in it? They meow a whole lot all the time their whole lives. so nothing to worry about :)

If he's only 5-6 weeks old, he's too young to be taken from his mother. That is why he is doing this. A cat kneads because he is : Comforting himself, when he is trying to get milk from his mother and as they get older, because they are happy. Most of them knead before they go to sleep, all mine do. Your head puts out more heat and they like to curl up where the heat is. Just be patient and he most likely will grow out of some of the things. A great website to go to is catfancy.com and if you subscribe to the magazine, it gives you tons of info. Good luck!!

Your description matches the same thing that happens to me. Man its such a coincidence. My cat does the same and it is only to me and not the others in the family. SOmetimes it gets real irritating but i think its just a cry for attention. I have another cat who used to do the same but now it has stopped.

wow nobody left any room for me to answer this one..lol I will have to agree with everybody else...because my cat did that except it was licking and bit ting well i always knew that he was wanting attention...baby kittens require a lot of attention. Just love on him and soon when he gets older he will grow out of it..Good Luck

Since you found him at such a young age, he probably thinks that you're his mother...Lol, cute! Just like when kittens drink milk, they knead and suck their mother's breast. He might want to get up close to your face because your neck is warm. You could hold him in your arms when he does that. =) Sounds precious!!

you are now the kitten's mommy. all babies are face oriented, they look for your face to be reassured and to get attention from you.(in your face). as the kitten gets older , its behavour will change. my 1 year old still does it but not as much.
