Many Catholics, myself included until not too long ago, confuse Limbo and Purgatory. Limbo is not and has never been Catholic doctrine.
Catholicism is not as black and white as some other denominations. Some denominations say if (blank) then you are saved and if (blank) then you are damned.
What happens to the soul of an aborted baby or an infant who dies before baptism? Catholicism says "we do not know, that is for God to decide." Some human philosophers and writers, such as Dante, have called this Limbo. Limbo is not Purgatory.

Limbo is not and never has been in the Bible.
The Church has pondered the suggestion of Limbo for a few hundred years and has decided that it is not a good idea. Limbo was never official doctrine.
Jesus said, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation. He who believes and is baptized will be saved." (Mark 16:15-16)
For centuries, people have wondered about children who died before they were baptized. The Bible does not explicitly state that they will go to heaven.
Limbo was suggested as the place where unbaptized babies went when they died. This idea was never official Church doctrine and has been rejected.
The Church now says that it is not sure what happens to unbaptized babies when they die but she entrusts them to the mercy of God.
For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Chruch section 1261: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt2sect2.htm#1261

The theory of Limbo came about because neither Scripture nor Tradition tell us what happens to babies who die without baptism. The Pope didn't change anything about the theory of Limbo. The document that was in the news recently states that the theory of Limbo "remains a possible theological opinion".

For sure, I can tell a few things:
1) Everything we need to know for life and Godliness IS in the Bible:
2Pe 1:3 seeing that his divine power hath granted unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that called us by his own glory and virtue;
2) The word "Limbo" isn't in the Bible.
3) The Pope isn't God.
4) The Pope will give an account of himself before God:
Heb 9:27 And inasmuch as it is appointed unto men once to die, and after this cometh judgment;
5) There is special cursing added by God to those who would add to or subtract from Holy Scripture:
Rev 22:18 I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto them, God shall add unto him the plagues which are written in this book:
Rev 22:19 and if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the tree of life, and out of the holy city, which are written in this book.

a lying pope put it in there - what is wrong with a lying pope taking it back out?
Matthew 4:4 "Man does not live by bread alone - BUT BY EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDS OUT OF THE MOUTH OF YAHWEH MUST MAN LIVE" ...
Take one word out and you cannot live by every word ... change one word and you cannot live by every word ... add one word and you cannot live by the every word ...
And Meg ... I had to comment - the scripture does state what occurs to babies that die without baptism ... it is the same thing that will occur to all men who died without baptism ... they will be (most likely) burried and the worms will eat them and they will be no more: UNTIL,
They are raised at the SECOND ressurection. Most christians only know about the first and think it is after Armegeddon - but; the Second ressurection will occur aruond 1,001 years from now; and,
Armegeddon will come about in around 1,101 years from now ... after the earth was rebuilt and Satan was released from Her chains - so she could deceive the nations one more time and test the hearts of mankind ... then Satan will be destroyed with all the wicked with her - just figured you should know this ...
Unbaptized babies and all others that never had opportunity to repent because the truth was not found on the planet at that time ... it has not been taught for almost 2,000 years since the messiah and the disciples were all murdered off and has only been taught for around 50 years to date - but the commissioned work was only going on now for around 24 years or so ...
There is only 144,000 that had kept the truth that was offered - 3 out of 4 fell away so let us just say 500,000 were shown the truth since Adam until these end days when the Remnant are sealed ... leaving a grand total of 144,000 who will be raised to salvation and great glory and power ... and around 350,000 (not correct number as we went on 500,000 total as a hypothetical number - shoudl be 144,000 X (times) 4 to come up with the exact number - then take 144,00 who are righteous out of that number and you got the number to be burned in the first ressurection) - to be burned.
Those who never had opportunity to see the truth will be raised and taught the truth and given a choice to follow Satan and her ways again or repent ... a simple plan - ALL THE MILLIONS AND BILLIONS OF ABORTIONS WILL COME ALIVE AND LOOK THEIR MOTHERS RIGHT IN THE EYES ... AND MAYBE EVEN ASK ...
Why ... why mommy did you not love me?
They all will have their opportunity - catholics just want to give some ray of sunshine to those who are misled by their teachings of which they have no sound advice ... only fables of men and old women ...
Peace and food for thought;
