cats aren't friendly pets, they are not family oriented. If you wanted to cuddle with a pet you should have gotten a dog, or even better a man

1 year is a little bit old for you to get him used to cuddling. I know because I had the exact same problem. Well I wouldn't call it a problem actually, because short of grabbing your cat and forcing him to cuddle up to you (like what my sister does) there's nothing you can do about it really except find other ways to get your cat to be more affectionate.

Try finding your cat's 'soft' spot; e.g. my cat loves to have his eyes scratched when they're closed. Strange but true. Also, massaging their ears where it joins to their head usually helps because most cats love that.

Whatever you do, just remember 2 simple things: 1. don't apply force - cats just don't work that way and 2. NEVER hit your cat (or any other pet for that matter). If he bites or scratches, leave him alone and try again. With patience, in time your cat will come to love being touched! It took me 2 years, so good luck :)

Well it must be the nature of a cat to be moody, cranky and just down right mean sometimes. I bottle fed my cat right from a baby. I was able to hold him and cuddle with him all the time until he got to be around 10 months old. I can still cuddle him, but only when I come home from work or when he wants to. He is funny. My sister came to visit and he tormented her! lol. Clawing, hissing and grawling. So don't fret. Its just the nature of the beast. Good luck

Yes it is very frustrating when you just want to snuggle and love him yet he doesn't want any part of it,I have one, Shrubble, just like that. Now I don't know how long you have had this feisty devil, since birth or adopted him as an adult, but all you can do is take it slow.Pat him gently talk sweetly and I can tell you TREATS help alot. A little bit at a time and alot of patience he will certainly get better, but we all know how cats can be,stubborn independent and they make us earn their affection.Mine was a little over a year and she was very anti-social.But she greets me every morning now at the coffee pot purring and demanding a little TLC and although she won't stay if I bring her to bed at night she sneaks in at night however she weighs almost 24lbs and sneaking is not possible! I really hope this help, just keep at it and it will be worth it!

We have the same problem with our male cat >^..^<
He doesn't want to be bothered much, gets pretty cranky, scratches our pre-school grand-kids, takes a swipe or lowers his ears when he's mad. He's a holy terror lol.
Our cat needs to be neutered. We are hoping that this will quieten him, but I would think that the sooner you have it done, the less bad habits (un-neutered habits) would disappear in awhile.
Its cost $200.oo plus shots where I live, just to have him done, it you cant afford it you could look for some shelters or rescues that will sponsor you + give you a deal on the neutering.

What were your cats parents like ? friendly or grumpy lol
If they/ or 1 of them was the same way, it could very well be the genes + he has inherited that awful cat-itude.

Cats make their own rules, they come to you when they want attention, they rule lol. They don't try to please their owners like dogs do.

Ahhh,my friend, welcome to the cat world. Cats will come to you when they want to. They make the rules of the cuddling and petting. The sooner you realize that, the best your life will be with your cat.

Believe it or not, he may grow out of it. Ripley was like a fuzzy spazzed out cat on speed. All I wanted to do was hug her and have a lap cat. Welcome to the confusing world of cats!! Ripley is now 5 and I can't get her off my lap. After year 2, her speed buzz wore off and she is alot calmer. She's all lap cat now. She did drive me crazy for two years, but she grew out of it. Good luck!!

Some cats just aren't like that, and when they are its on there terms. Just ignore him and see what happens.
