No honey! My grandparents were farmers and it is a natural thing for them. A healthy chicken lays on average of once a day at least. It is only if they are old or sick that there is a problem or if the person is abusive or unethical. The eggs are the farmers bread and butter so they take good care of the chickens if they want to support their family, too. No question is stupid!

Laying eggs is natural for hens and you probably know that commercial eggs aren't fertile so no chicks are in them. However, many commercial egg companies keep their hens under horrible conditions, crowding them into small cages in brightly-lit rooms in order to "trick" the hens' bodies into producing more eggs than they normally would. These unnatural conditions make the hens likely to attack each other, so it is the practice of most egg corporations to cut off the tip of their beaks.
If eggs were gathered like you see in the movies, and some smaller farms still do, I don't see any way the hens would be harmed. This is where the hens would be allowed outside to scratch around for bugs or whatever, and each has plenty of room, & the eggs are collected by humans (not by having the cages on a slope so the eggs roll into some common collecting area).

No, not at all. Chickens will lay eggs daily, but the eggs are not technically chickens yet. The rooster has to come along and fertilize the egg, that is when the baby chix start to form. The eggs we eat from the store have not been fertilized, just collected by the farmer (or whoever) and pasteurized. No FOWL (haha, pardon the pun) pay here!

For the first times a Pullet lays an Egg it can be quite Painful for them, However the Skin around the Chickens butt will stretch over time, making it easy for the chicken to lay the egg, Causing no pain as an End result. Sometimes the first few eggs a Chicken lays are very small, As small as an Inch and a half, Gradually getting bigger as Time passes to Stretch the skin. Source(s): Bred & Raised Chickens

maybe, maybe not. the only harm done to the chickens who lay the eggs is that most egg farms keep their chickens in extremely small cages so that it is easier to feed them and collect the eggs. go to some websites and check it out. it kinda gruesome.
but on the bright side, there are a lot of brands developing that say they have 'free range' chickens and things like that, so there's hope!

I don't think that the bird is hurt in the process of getting an egg. If you get eggs from free roaming hens then the farmers go to the nests individually and collect the eggs. So I think it doesn't hurt them.

No you do not kill an unborn chicken when you eat an egg. Eggs are checked with a light to be sure they are unfertilized before they are put on the market. Chickens are not harmed to harvest the eggs. However, in many cases, their living conditions are deplorable.

No chickens harmed in the answering of this question....
No eggs don't hurt chickens. Sometimes the way the chickens are treated while they're laying eggs hurts them though - like they're stuck in tiny cages and all they do is lay eggs.

Depending on the place; yes it's possible they could be harming the chickens. It's sad, really. I went to a place once before where they were squeezed for their eggs! Most places aren't that bad though, some places are very polite letting the chickens lay their eggs in their own time.

Not on any egg farm ive ever seen...in general the hens all live in a large coop or barn set up w multiple nests & the farmers go through & collect the eggs taht are laid every day...there is a rooster kept w the hens as this urges them to lay the eggs in the natural hopes that they will be fertilized & make more chicks.
