To answer your question, "magic" is usually a complete misunderstanding of chemistry and/or psychology. Or just selective perception that filters out anything that casts doubt on one's fantasy world. As for the rest of what you said...sounds like a poorly written short story. But if you're convinced it's real, who am I to argue? Have fun with that, Sabrina...

Don't base your life or your opinion of yourself on what will almost certainly turn out to have been a bad dream or touch of upset stomach.

There is no 'real' definition of magic because the poor word is so misused and misapplied.

Prestidigitation and stage magic works, but it works 'behind the scene' to give an illusion of mystery for the purpose of entertainment.

Ceremonial or ritual magic works much like prayer does- there is no real cause and effect between the prayer and the real world. No amount of prayer or ritual magic has ever negated any physical law.

Look at healings as an example- people have been healed of arthritis, pain, etc. with some regularity- but no one has been healed of an amputation, a severed spine, kidney stones, etc. Healings that can be influenced by the mind itself happen often. Healings that require that the laws of nature be violated do not ever.

I do not think this invalidates the purpose and true usefulness of such magic or prayer- they have a power and a usefulness- it is just not in the area of affecting the physical world directly.

I agree that magic is real. Magicians work real wonders, and prayer accomplishes much. Other than that- the idea that magic, spells, voodoo, etc. can affect the real world in supernatural ways is somewhere between fantasy and delusion.

Spells are just ritual and prayer intermixed to increase the power of intent in invoking the "energies" that control this stuff called "Magick".

When you do a spell or candle ritual and say words you are doing the same thing as other religions do in prayer. That is why no matter what religion is out there they all have had success in prayer healing and other miracles that involve ritual prayer.

Even though spells on TV are more often than not made up by the writers could work because there is not a "real spell" because the magick is not in the spell or the ritual but the caster.

There are three types of magic in the world, as I see it.1. Pull-a-rabbit-out-of-a-hat magic. This is the sort of magic Harry Houdini did and David Copperfield does. This is the illusionary, trickery form of magic.2. Turn-a-prince-into-a-frog magic. This is the stuff of fairy tales, the sort of thing make-believe evil queens and witches (note the lowercase W) do. This is the storybook, fiction magic.3. Ritual religious magic. This type of magic is another form of prayer, this is what Wiccans/Witches (capital W here, there is a difference from "witch") and other Pagans do. This magic is as real as Christians saying rosary or Jews saying kiddish. What I mean is, if you believe that people can do things like communicate with deities through prayer, then there is such a thing as real magic. If you don't believe that, then magic is not real.

I do believe it is real. It is subtle and at times can surprise us. It is what some would call nature, miracles, the very life energies that keep us alive. What it is not is evil, or stuff in movies or on TV. That is all special effects. And it is not in the magic shows, that is all illusions. I have experienced it and on occasion used it. It is to be respected and not fooled with though because things can and do go wrong.

magic is an experience that provokes a feeling of heightened reality, a more-than-real feeling. anyone can do magic, but some people never learn how, others forget. there's nothing supernatural about it.
