I will be going to NY for 3.5 days
ill be going with my friends we're in the ages of 15-21,2 girls 2 boys. We have read New York books but Im interested in hearing first hand from people whove been there.

How can we divide the days, the last day will be our departure day leaving EWR at 4:30 we have to be there at 2 for int'l flight? On the last day we'll be watching GMA and do last minute shopping, but for the other 3 not sure. Is it convinient to ride public transport or rent a car

We want to do a lot of shopping, we had Bloomies L&T Macys NBC Chinatown and Loehmans. are there other stores that are a NY favourite? Stores w/ designer and low prices

Last 2 question. We are all Canadian citizens but will go to NY from Russia, then home(Moscow-NY-Calgary), do we need to show other ID other than passport? Are traveler checks still accepted and hwere can I get them there, if not I have a visa card but not sure which IDs are needed.

DO NOT rent a car- public transportation is a lot faster and easier- the subways ususally get you somwwhere faster than a car would. the best shopping is on 5th ave from 14th to 19th, on lexington ave from 55th to 60th st, and around 34 and broadway . if your looking for a discount dept store theres century 21 downtown on cortlandt st near wall st- they are all designers discounted. i can recommend a fabulous restaurant that i go to about every 2 weeks- its a spanish/ mexican restaurant in the village on west 4th between 6th and 7th called Tio Pepe (tiopepenyc.com) its sooo good and their margharitas are the absolute best. very reasonably priced also- its a must go to restaurant. for tourists- hang out in battery park for a while (great views of the statue of liberty) and theres lots of touristy type street shows and such down there. times square is a must- but if its a weekday your going then i would try to go there in the morning just after rush hour- about 930ish cause it gets crazy crowded there.

If you walk as fast as New Yorkers walk, you can reach the base of the Brooklyn Bridge from WTC in about 10 minutes. I encourage you to walk across the bridge and view Manhattan from the Brooklyn side. From WTC station, walk up Vesey Street to Broadway, turn left and go up Broadway to City Hall Park and Park Row. Turn right and follow Park Row up to the bridge.

Definitely do NOT rent a car - you won't need it, you can't find cheap parking, and rental companies will charge you extra if you are under age 25. Subways and buses go almost everywhere and there are plenty of taxis if you have bulky items.

If you're going to be in the WTC area, you can go to Century 21 on Church Street and Syms on Trinity Place. Both sell designer clothing at very good prices.

If it's your first time in NYC, it might be good for you to buy a double-decker sightseeing bus ticket. Both CitySights and CoachUSA/Gray Line offer unlimited 24 and 48 hour passes. Gray Line also has a 3 day pass.

If you want to go it alone, you can plan your trip using NYC's official tourist website. Not For Tourists is also good for finding more unique sights.

I think you can exchange traveler's checks for US currency at the airport and at most banks, department stores, and hotels. Canadian citizens do not need a visa to enter the US, just a passport.

Have fun!

We went basically very final 3 hundred and sixty 5 days. We stayed on the Bellvue hotel around seventh/ 40 8th in the Broadway section. that's basically 2 blocks from the parade. great place, look on the trip web content and study the comments. We stayed each and every and a week and located a thank you to be conscious the subways. as a great way using reality the parade is going, get there a million-2 hrs early to get a shrink view.It rained very final 3 hundred and sixty 5 days and on an identical time as the umbrellas went up, you are able to need to'nt see lots and the balloons have been flying horizontal using rain/wind. pass, you will like it.

You could walk to the Brooklyn Bridge. It should take about 15 to 20 minutes. You are going to need your passport for ID purposes and one could spend years shopping in Manhattan without stopping for a day of rest.
