The new Denon 3808 is supposedly coming out this month and I'm thinking of purchasing one, but I want to know FIRST AND FOREMOST, does the Denon have the HQV and the HDMI 1.3? (Cuz I know the Onkyo 875 does..)

After answering that, what does the Denon 3808CI have that the Onkyo 875 does / doesn't?

Like a significant number of audio/video enthusiasts I feel both A/V receiver models are worthy of serious consideration. For preliminary information on the Denon AVR-3808CI please see the relevant Webpages listed below. The Denon AVR-3808CI should be available beginning in late August.

The most obvious difference between both models is the internal video processors: the Denon AVR-3808CI uses Faroudja DCDi (FLI-2310) video processing and the Onkyo TX-SR875 uses the Silicon Optix HQV Reon-VX video processor. (Personally I much prefer that all VIDEO processing take place in the DVD player or in an outboard processor.) For whatever it’s worth it appears that the Onkyo TX-SR875 is equipped with three DSPs (digital signal processors) as opposed to two DSPs in the Denon AVR-3808CI. Otherwise they appear to be fairly similar in terms of features and basic specifications. Both models are equipped with HDMI 1.3a connections (see Onkyo’s press release, 2007 Line-Up Brochure, and/or TX-SR875 Instruction Manual below.) The prices for Onkyo products are much more likely to be discounted by authorized dealers than Denon’s products.

To perform a fairly thorough evaluation of the video processing, as well as determine the best choice of interconnection, i.e. HDMI versus component or RGB, I highly recommend purchasing a copy of Silicon Optix’s (HD) HQV test DVD. Combined with a handful of reference quality, high-definition DVD movies a consumer should have little difficulty determining which receiver, type of interconnection, or display, provides better performance.

Pending the widespread release of both products, along with thorough reviews, one can only conjecture about the performance each of these receivers will provide. There is little doubt that Denon and Onkyo currently represent two of the finest consumer electronics manufacturers in Asia when it comes to producing high performance audio/video receivers. Like many I’m looking forward to the opportunity to audition the Denon AVR-3808CI and Onkyo TX-SR875 audio/video receivers as soon as possible.

Hi there . Here is some information on the Denon 3808CI

http://www.listenup.com/DENON+AVR-3808CI-p-AVR3808CI-p-49908.html

To compare with the Onkyo 875.

http://www.onkyousa.com/model.cfm?m=TX-SR875&class=Receiver&p=i

The Denon has 3 power transformers and 6 power supplys which has not been available in a Receiver before. One of the weak areas of Receivers was using one power supply for the Preamp section the Power amp section and the Tuner. That problem has been solved with the new Denon's 6 power supplys.
I don't know if the Onkyo has the same independant power supplies. If it hasn't then the Denon will perform much better They both sound different with their audio quality. Denon usually has a smoother sound which is pleasing to the ear and less fatiguing. Onkyo tends to sound richer and a bit brighter . So you have to decide which one you could live with.It is best to hear them before buying to be certain. And of course it depends on the speakers you will use with them that will affect the sound.also .I hope you get a great system.

EDIT :.Digital video cables do not automatically gaurantee better quality than analogue. There is no simple way to determine in advance whether a DVI or HDMI cable will render a better picture than an RGB or COMPONENT video cable. It all depends upon your SOURCE and display combination. What may operate well using an HDMI cable between a source and display setup, may well produce a better picture when connecting another source say through component video over the same display device. You need to plug-in your cables and give the whole setup a try using the different connectivity options available on your gear.

The previous poster appears to be incorrect as 875 does have HDMI 1.3 per Onkyo's marketing.

I am curious how the upconversion to 1080P will look. I have a 1080i camcorder and the previous batch of Onkyo receivers would convert from 1080i to 720P. The 875 and it's bigger brother seem very promising. I noticed BH is taking pre-orders but I will await field tests. My last 2 receivers were a Denon and now an Onkyo. I liked both in different ways so now await the hands-on reviews eagerly.

As a comparison on the video scaling chip. On Denon you have go with the upcoming 5308 model to get the same Silicon Optix Realta chip that is in the T-875. The 4308 and below uses the Faroudja chip.

Onkyo 875 does not have HDMI 1.3 - 805 does.
According to Denon specs, 3808CI will have HDMI 1.3a.
Onkyo 905 is coming out soon - I think it is more compatible with 3808ci.
