Im also trying to get my parents to let me get a dog..
(im 14)
first you have to prove to them that you are responsible
-be home on time
-clean up after yourself
stuff like that
also you need to respect them and others
-PLEASE and THANK YOU
-dont TELL them your going to someones house.. ASK
-dont talk back
-speak when spoken to (tehehe)
-dont fight with siblings
TALK to them
ASK what type of dog they like
-big
-small
-non shed
whatever
be aware of all the expences
-food
-grooming
-vet bills ($$$)
-the dog itself (buy from a shelter.. they are good dogs that need good homes)
-supplies
KNOW how to take care of a dog.. how to train it..
you cant just throw it in a corner when you get tired of it
anyways.. i hope i have helped you!
toodles

Sorry at 12 you're NOT old enough to look after it. How are you going to pay for it's vet bills? And supplies like food, water, toys, dishes, training tools? Even to pay for the dog you'd need parental assistance.
Then in the actual management of it, it's going to destroy carpets and furniture when it's first brough into the house. No matter how observant an owner you are. Show me an owner who's first dog didn't ruin their carpet and I'll show you a liar.
And what about when you go to college in six years? You can't take the pup with you and by the time you finish school he'll be considered an elderly pup.
I'm not saying never get a dog, but you should wait until you're older and not living under your parents rule, ultimately it would be their dog and their decision.

A dog is like a child and you cannot think that it can take care of itself. Your parents know this and probably do not think that you are ready for this responsibility. I am sorry to say that I also do not think you are ready for this responsibility because I do not think you know that you would be the "parent" of this dog.
Your parents and I know that the dog will live for nearly 20 years. You will be 32 years old by that time. It is not something you should take lightly because you can't just abandon the dog when you get older and maybe move to another place. An animal is a companion and a life long commitment. Consider this as your parents have.

First of all sit down and have a conversation with them. Ask them for their reasons that you can't have one.
Do your parents think they are too messy? Is it the money? Do they feel you aren't responsible enough?
If they think it's too messy then try looking up breeds of dog that are cleaner than others. You don't want a huge slobbery dog in the house after all. I advise a Shiba Inu for a great pet. They actually are a very clean breed of dog and easily house trained.
If it's the money then work little odd jobs and save up for a breed that you want or adopt one from a shelter.
If it's responsibility then prove to your parents that you can be responsible. Tell them a dog would help you learn lessons in responsibility.
I wish you luck and hope you get the dog. But be careful, if you do get one don't be surprised if your parents get overly attached as well. It happened with mine. LOL

I'm 11 and I am getting a dog soon but at first it was a "NO YOU CAN'T HAVE ONE". What I did was pick out a good breed easy to train, (Look up breeds on the internet) I found a Wheaten Terrier, the site said they were easy to train, smart, and didn't shed. Then save your money and get some supplies for the dog (Like a few toys, collar, leash). Show your parents how cute the dog is and all of the information you found. Show them the toys and supplies and then ask for it :D...Worked for me :)
I will be a proud owner of a female wheaten terrier!
Good luck!

GET AN ENGLISH SPRINGER SPANIEL!!! Best dogs ever!!! AND they're water dogs, haha we cant keep our springers out of the boat when we go to the beach. and even the sprinklers get a good work out haha. i swear, the other dogs have sense to stay out of the sprinklers/rain/ocean but not the springers. they dive right in and start attacking, haha. they LOVE the water. and they're SOOOO loyal. easy to train and smart. and they're the cutest things ever, we got both kinds: a liver and white and a tri color springer. they really are extremely loyal. ppl in my house cant even go to the bathroom without them by ur feet. haha. literally, i was trying to curl my hair and he was crying cuz i wouldnt go lie down with him, so he laid there on the floor rug in the bathroom right on my feet and waited till i was done. and when ur in the bathroom, theyll lie there by the door waiting/protecting. cutest ever. except, they get ear problems. so vet is a must....except i clean their ears out once a week and twice a week during the summer cuz theyre in the water so much and havent had ear problems. u just gotta keep up on the cleaning. definately the way to go! ok this is gonna sound terrible, but sometimes desparate times calls for desparate measures. i wanted another eng springer spaniel and placed my eyes on this cute little tri color boy that i named topper harley ryder.....it was love at first sight. soooo.....he was 750 dollars!! our girl was 800 and both from champion lines, so as u can imagine they were hard to resist. soooo.....i played devil and had the breeders bring the puppy over to the house to show him off and booy did top work his magic! he was struttin all over the house, but being as though he could barely walk, it made it extra cute! it was really mean cuz they fell in love and hated that i had blind sided them, but i was desparate. now, 6 months later, he is my puppy and loyal to me pretty much cuz i risked all the emotional downpour for the cute little brown eyed pup. well, either that or the cookie he got! hahaha.....if u know ur parents will give in at the sight of him, id say go for it. the least thatll happen is theyll say no. well, then the breeders who came over might be a little upset but its worth it. top was worth it!

I'm 12. I really want a snake. I saved up 200£. I was persistant. Now me and basil live happily.
Moral of the story: always be persistant and use your own money to show that you really want one.
