children love to make creatures and other things out of it.
play pretend diner with the playdough.

another thing children love is sidewalk chalk.
they love to express their feelings through the drawings.

Not all of your art activities have to be related to your theme. It's fun when they do but sometimes it's hard to come up with them. I like to do integrated art activities. Try some fun science related art. Diffusion is fun, you can freeze several sheets of paper and then let the kids drop thinned tempera paint with droppers and talk about what happens when the paint hits the frozen paper. or freeze colored water in ice cube trays and let them paint with the frozen water. Ice activities are fun for summer. I hope this helps.

Do they have to fit your theme? Sometimes (as someone said above) it is best if art activities are left open-ended.
However, how about just painting with the colours of wild animals? For example, with black on orange paper or white on black paper. Focus on colors and patterns seen on wild animals.
Oh!! How about talking about elephants who paint? They're in zoos, but maybe that would work for you. Have children try painting by holding the brush in their mouths.
Play music that has to do with animals, like Saint-Saens Carnival of the Animals and have them paint to the music.
What about collages made by cutting pictures of animals from magazines? Not especially creative, but kids love to cut and paste. I like collages, personally. LOL

Have cut outs of zebra or tiger shapes and let the kids marble paint the stripes, make wild animal masks out of paper plates and other various materials, trace their hands on a piece of paper and let the kids glue feathers to make peacocks, use shoe boxes and thin strips of paper/string to make animal cages, give each child a letter A through Z and then make a classroom alphabet animal book, sponge paint animal print patterns like stripes, spots, etc.
Have fun with it and make sure to let the kids use their imagination

*Read Where the Wild Things Are and talk with the children about "real" and "pretend". Listen to their ideas about real and pretend, then:
*Give them collage materials including empty toilet tissue tubes and let them "make" their own animal..could be "real" or "pretend."
*Take a long sheet of paper and make paper trees to put on it. Then give the children paints or collage materials and have them paint or collage animals to put in the jungle.
*Use small paper lunch bags to make wild animal puppets.

You can find great ideas here:
http://www.kinderart.com/
It states K-12, but the K-1 ideas could easily be tweaked down for 3-4yo's.
Hope that helps!

get paper plates and teach them how to draw eyes. **then help them with cutting them out. mouth etc.** put whiskers on and let them color it however they want. and maybe put a popsicle glued to the bottom so they can put it up to their faces like masks...
best of luck...<3

you could have them make caterpillars out of egg cartons, you could give them playdoh and let them build something, you could take them out for a nature hike collecting leaves that could be used for cut and paste work.
