Most blacks are NOT temporary, Dyeing hair black is a commitment cause, with the best ones, you can't just dye over it. And it IS really hard to get back to your natural color. It will require stripping, bleaching and dyeing all over again. It damages your hair a lot if you get it stripped.

Hi Music Lover,
I'm a music lover, too. And a hairdresser who specialized in coloring. All hair color is properly called tint. Dye is what we use on fabric. It's the chemical designation.

Black is the hardest color to get out. Even with the temporary hair coloring that lasts around 4 weeks, black lasts longer. Some of the temporary brands will "grab" onto your hair shaft and stay there, looking unnatural until you cut it off -but not all of it. So that looks weird, especially outdoors, and under fluorescent lights. For a temporary change, consider wigs and hair pieces you can clip or pin on. The initial cost is more, but it's cheaper over time. It also allows you to have "short" hair and long hair at the same time.

Any coloring product must be retouched after 3 to 4 weeks. The new growth will be in your natural color, so if you like the results, you must treat the new growth (not the roots, which are under the scalp.)

If you are going to go black, then back to your natural brown, a stripping procedure would be necessary. That would be true for temporary or permanent products. Stripping removes ALL the color from the hair, then the next color chosen would be applied. While waiting for your natural color to grow out, you would have to have it re-applied every-so-often to darken the treated area after it faded. That will usually be about 4 to 6 weeks. Stripping, and any process you do to your hair will damage it to some degree. Salons have professional conditioners to strengthen your hair to lessen damage.

Should you not color in the first place? Well, if you are a teenager, perhaps that's the best idea. Coloring gets expensive, so you need to be prepared for that. But if you've got that covered -have fun with it. It will grow out again. Unlike tattoos, you don't have to live with it forever.

I suggest you go to a salon and get it done professionally because all hair color that you buy at like, wal-mart or whatever ARE harsh on your hair. There are different kinds of dyes permanent, demi and semi. demi lasts about 6-8 washes, semi lasts about 6-8 weeks and permanent is permanent, so if you want it to fade I wouldnt use permanent. And if you do use permanent, you would only have to get a retouch every 5-7 weeks. Haircolor doesnt really hurt hair. At least at my salon, we use Aveda and it actually makes hair shinier. Also, black is such a harsh color. If you are unsure of it you should go with dark brown. Just go to a local salon and make sure you ask all these questions to your stylist.

usually black is very hard to get out but since your hair is a dark color naturally i would try something like "Herbal Essences ColorFlirt Mousse" they have one in black called "midnight twinkle" it sounds beautiful! the colorflirt mousse is a light mousse that you apply with gloves let it sit wash it out and it last for about 4 to 6 weeks. i used a plum color and i loved it! it was very easy to use and it washed out in the time. you can always use a deep cleaning shampoo to take out the extra residue. its a great alternative to permanent dye. with the foam you can try many different colors and not be stuck with em. i love the foam!

but if you decide to permanently dye your hair stripping it will cause damage, applying darker color never really damages the hair shaft, it just deposits color to it, lightening hair is a whole different ballgame though. it damages your hair like crazy. so once you go darker you might not want to go back to the lighter color. unless you want to do alot of deep conditioning although most colors tend to fade in time anyway.

i hope i could help.

Try Natural Instincts, it is a semi-permanent dye that washes out in 24 washes. This way you will not have to deal with roots or stripping your hair to get it back to your original color.

I would avoid dying your hair unless you have an olive completion, darker colors tend to wash out your face making you look paler then you actually are.
