You cannot get proper wine making equipment & ingredients from your local grocery store.

You can get some things that make a wine but the quality will be poor. The grapes in the grocery (Lambrusca) are table grapes for eating. You can ferment them into a wine but it just will not be very good.
Now if you are a fruit lover you could make a fruit wine say from raspberries (very expensive).

You will need sugars such as dextrose that they do not carry. But for lack of the proper done use table sugar. Certain acids such as tartaric, malic. Perhaps most important you will need yeast. The bread yeast will work to a certain extent but the alcohol will be low and the flavor very poor. You will want a proper wine yeast.

I suggest you get on the net to find home-wine supplier that can mail you the ingredients. Or look for a local wine supply shop.

If you cannot do the things above then use what ingriedients that I have mentioned. But you really need a book on home wine making. There are many things you need to do and this page in not extensive enough to list them.

Good luck & enjoy.

If you want consistently good wine for relatively little cash layout, try eckraus.com or Bier Haus International. If you are really interested in doing this right, buy a standard kit ( about $150.00) and go from there. You can make very good wine in as little as 28 days. Cost per bottle when done, will vary on type of juice ordered, whether you' re re-using bottle or buying new, cork or screw top and how many "tools" of the trade you want to get. I make Cabernet Sauvignon, Chianti, Liebfraumilch, and some sweet fruit wines.

All these kits will give you everything you need ( other than the fermenters and bottles) and my wine cost is about $3.50 per bottle when done.

Keep in mind, all wines are dry when first made. You will add sweetener during the last stages of wine making. EC Kraus will give you some good directions from their site.
