18, and its forever. Be sure it is really what you want. Some years from now, you may regret it.

Okay, okay, okay......listen up. Wait until you are at LEAST 21 (if not about 25 or even older). I got my first 2 last year at 33. Above all, do not get a tattoo from someone who is not a professional. No getting a tattoo from someone who just picked up some equipment and started tattooing. You seriously get what you pay for when it comes to tattoos. If I had gotten a tattoo when I was 15 or 16, I'd have "OZZY" on my knuckles and a dragon or skull somewhere on my body. Yikes. That's not me nowadays.
Also, for gods' sake, do NOT get a tattoo on your neck unless you plan on being a tattoo artist or wearing a lot of turtlenecks. Arms/legs/backs are pretty cool, but remember, not everyone thinks tattoos are great. My tattoo artist worked in an office job for a while and had to wear long sleeved shirts all the time (even in the hot summer) to cover up his tattoos. Think before you ink. If you have an inkling that you won't want it on your body in 5/10/15/20 yrs., don't do it. They're for life. Removing tattoos costs tens of thousands of dollars. Seriously.

You must be 18 to walk in and get a tattoo. If you design your own I would put it where some people can see it but you can also cover up for job interviews like the upper arm. If you wear a tank everyone can see, but if your wearing a nice pullover no one can see it. I would not do my neck as it hurts really bad and you can't enjoy it. I would for sure put it on my upper arm. This way you can see your art yourself. Happy tattooing.

I tend to think, if I want a design for more than 3 years, I'll put up with it the rest of my life. If you have any doubts... even the littlest, DO NOT get it. You have the rest of your life to get one. No need to rush. If you do find something you like, print it out and hang it in the mirror. If you can stand seeing it every day, than you can stand having it on your body.
Do not do any Chinese/ Japanese symbols unless you are 100% sure of the meaning. I once knew someone who got their name tattooed in Chinese... but while dining at a Chinese restaurant, he was informed it wasn't his name but something derogatory.
Also, reseach the place you're going. Not only do you want it to be clean, you should also want it to be a place that the artist know what they are doing.
After you get your ink, make sure you take good care of it. Do what the artist tell you to and it will heal and look nice for a long time.

Personally I think that you are too young to get a tattoo. What do your parents think about this? Remember a tattoo is permanent and a lot of people might judge you simply because of having a tattoo.
My son was about your age and wanted to get a tattoo and I told him "not only no, but Hell NO" He and I argued back and forth for a long time. I told him that when he became 18, he could do what ever he wanted. He is now in the Navy and as far as I know gotten 2 tattoos. He knows I don;t approve of them.
This is strictly my opinion. Please wait and give it alot of thought.

I would think that a reputable tattoo place (and that is where you want to go) would require that you are at least 18.
The place I went to required you to come in first and show your design or idea to them and then make an appointment for a later date (week or so). I think that worked best as you had time to really think about what you were going to do and to sign the consent forms.
Tattoos are a very personal form of body art, make sure that you are very certain as to what you want - as others stated, it is permanent.
I had my first tattooo at 37 and it was my kids names - very personal to me and not about what others think about it.
By the way, when others say - "what about when you are old and wrinkly and the tatto is sagging, misshapen, stretched out, etc, etc, etc". I respond that my tattoo is for me not for you and when I am old and wrinkly do you think that I am going to care what you think about me?"
Just think very carefully about a tattoo, I thought about for three years before I actually did it.

Listen to Kristy Fox and the other cool, mature people who say that tattoos are absurdly ridiculous, no matter what the age of the wearer.
And Dude, take a look at her! There is one really gorgeous woman whom any guy would LOVE to be close to. A tattoo negates the possibility that a woman with any class at all is going to look twice at you.
To cool people, tattoos brand you as a mindless clone of the popular media culture, devoid of any security in your unique individuality.
If the talking heads on your television set all went and jumped off of the top of 100 story buildings, would you do it too?
I guess not.
Then why, oh why would you emulate them in bodily mutilation?
Cool people are cool due to what is on their insides, not because of the clothes they wear or the pictures on their skin or their hair.
Character is what you should be cultivating, not silly, expensive signs of your insecurity and mindless conformity to what is "cool" for children who do not want to be different.

I'm pretty sure it's 16 with a parent/guardian's permission and they usually have to be present for the actual tattooing. When you're 18 you can get one alone.

being that you are fifteen you have to get parental consent for you to get a tattoo...as long as your parents are there to sign the forms you can do it...and if they do let you get the tattoo and ur only fifteen i suggest you leave their not following policy...meaning maybe their not the most professional people to deal with....and its gonna be there for the rest of your life so go somewhere you need parental consent and somewhere clean...and put it somewhere when on an interview for a job or jus in public period it cannot be seen unless you want it to

You have to be 18, unless a parent comes in with you and signs the papers. I'm sure you could find somewhere that they would do it, no questions asked, but I'm not sure you want to get it done somewhere like that.
