Well, you could be tensing up. If you are tense, the shots that go into the muscle will hurt. If you relax, the shot itself doesn't hurt. Sometimes the medication going into the muscle will hurt or "sting". What kind of shots do you get? If you are talking about ordinary vaccinations, they shouldn't hurt or "sting", so if they do, then you are too tense, try relaxing more.
Do you have a low threshold of pain? This could make you think the shots hurt really bad, when someone else may not even feel them.
Anyway, my advice to you, is to try and relax next time you have a shot. "easier said than done" BUT, I guarantee if you relax, the pain won't seem so bad.

It can also depend on the location the shot is being given in as well. I found that shots given in certain areas can actually hurt more than the arm.

I would definitely let the doctor know that you hurt a lot whenever you get a shot to see what other things they can suggest to make getting a shot easier.

It depends on many different factors. The size of the needles...the spot that they are giving it(if given in a fatty area it's less painful), and the med. that is being given. If you are getting a IM shot they are more painful, then if you are getting it Sub-Q.
