My roommate and I were in the market to buy a used car from a private seller, and found one online: a Bronco, which was advertised as "in great shape" and "runs well". Once we purchased the car, we found out what a terrible mistake we made--the car is undriveable, completely rusted out, and has several major problems that make it really only desirable for a junkyard.

The private seller and I signed a written agreement that the title would be handed over upon full payment. We have paid over 3/4 of the price, but now neither want nor need the title or the vehicle.

We are in Colorado. I need to know, is there any way I can force him to take the car back and return the money we have already paid to him? The car is such a piece of **** (as is the seller, by the way), and his advertisement of it was completely false. Please help.

Caveat empter. My Latin is off, I'm sure, but the message is let the buyer beware.

It was your responsibility to have the SUV checked out before you bought it. So even though the guy lied, it is most likely too bad for you.

If you don't pay, the guy could sue you for the rest of the money you owe. Since you have already paid 3/4 of the money, then just pay the rest and learn from the past when you buy your next car.

The SUV must have some value left in it. Have you taken the truck in and had it looked at. It could be something simple with the engine.

Nope, you bought the Bronco and all the problems that came with it. Get the title and sell it and try to get your money back. The seller is under no obligation to take the vehicle back. It is your responsibility as a buyer to determine the condition of a used vehicle before you buy it.

Buyer beware, hate to say it, but you saw it and heard it before you bought it, and if you bought it without seeing or hearing it. Well thats your mistake, and you will have to pay for it. If I sell you a Bronco over the internet, and you buy it, I can tell you whatever I want. And as long as it is a complete vehicle it might not run, and in court you really cant prove anything. All I have to say is it ran when I gave it to you. So unfortunately you are stuck. you could pay it off and sell it, but Broncos are great vehicles. You can buy ANYTHING for them and completely restore them if you want.

No offense but lay the blame where it belongs, you saw what you were buying actually you owe him for the remaining balance. Hope you learned something in the process

sorry, but since you didn't bother to have the thing inspected before you bought it...you own it. You can't force the seller to do anything.
