Isaiah30:26 "Moreover the light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun shall be sevenfold, as the light of seven days, in the day that the LORD bindeth up the breach of his people, and healeth the stroke of their wound."

"The light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun shall be sevenfold." Well, this is one prophecy that will never come true. Since the moon has no light of its own, but only reflects that of the sun, it could never shine like the sun. And the sun will not, at least not while there are humans to see it, shine 7 times as bright as it does now.

I believe the interpretation has a spiritual significance, not meant to be taken literally.

If you interpret this literally, you have to interpret the entire bible literally and arrive the earth was created around 6,000 BC just like Archbishop Usher did. So, the Bible is figurative, not literal.
Anyway, the light of the Sun is, in fact, exactly like the light of the Moon. As the Sun goes about converting approximately 600 million tons of hydrogen into helium every second through nuclear fusion, quanta of electromagnetic radiation are generated. These quanta are more commonly referred to as photons. Some of these photons can be detected by human eyes and have been called light by humans. Also generated are photons which have frequencies that cannot be detected by human eyes but can be felt by humans. Think of UV rays. UV rays also come in photons and when those photons hit human tissue, their kinetic energy is absorbed and excites the atoms inside that tissue making the tissue feel warm. So, we can feel the heat of the energy of the Sun's photons. Now, not all the photons leave the surface of the Sun and hit the earth, some hit the surface of the Moon and are reflected off it to the earth. The primary source of these photons is still the Sun, so they are all the Sun's light. In a few billion years when all the hydrogen is used up, hydrogen fusion will stop. Then all the atoms left over will pull themselves together under their gravitational attraction since there is no heat energy holding up the Sun's surface. Eventually enough pressure will be created for helium fusion to begin. At this point the energy created by this process will cause the Sun's surface to swell and turn the Sun into a red giant. It will be brighter form earth's perspective until it swells enough to engulf the earth. The brightness increase will be because more energy being released AND the bigger area emitting the light. The Sun's light could then be increased sevenfold, I am not sure cause I haven't done the math. In any case, if any one is around on the surface of the earth to see this increase, they are going to be in for a very bad day. Talk about heat wave.

The word "as" does not imply that it is of it's own but seven fold and as bright as the sun usually is.This is rather a dubious thing but sounds to be dripping in superstitious influence.
This prophecy will still not come true however at the time it was probably quite effective in influencing people that placed so much stock in their ignorant understanding of the awesome orbs in the sky.

I don't know about that... It seems to me that all it is saying is that the sun is brighter than the moon and both will get brighter... Not very controversial or profound really...

If the sun got brighter wouldn't it cast more light on the moon making it brighter too?

But whether it can or can't happen doesn't exactly seem to me to be an intragal part of Christian theology, the disproving of which will send the church as an institution crashing to the ground.

Your just quibbling over semantics.

Why are you so desperate to prove Christianity false? And who are you trying to prove it to? Us or yourself?

No, we don't. The Bible was written in ancient times, before anyone knew these facts.

You are surely kidding. You are making yourself look silly. No one believes that the moon shines on its own.
No one believes that the world is flat.

What you are doing is going through the Bible, picking out verses describing what people thought of the physical universe at the time, and applying them to the present. That's faulty logic.

those of you who think of the bible is unreliable ought to do a sprint diagnosis on the situation. in case you look, you will locate that the bible is incredibly the main sturdy historic rfile, as shown by the ineffective sea scrolls, between different issues. human beings have confidence what they study in history books, yet however the bible is greater traditionally precise and that they do no longer have confidence that. I advise you study "examining the evidence" or "The Case for Christ," the two one among which bypass into element explaining why technology incredibly helps, no longer contradicts, the bible.

Of course not. This is phenomenological language, something the ancient Hebrews loved to employ. Moreover, this section of Isaiah is apocalyptic meaning it will certainly have hyperbolic language.
